Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

Went and picked up a Phaeton from Big Vern (Cheers mate!) as a rebuild project. Its an S1 but has some S2 bits from the looks of it like the rear bodywork which has the bulges for spring hangers.

The plan is to strip it back to the bare chassis and then build it up from there, new bushes, calipers etc and a new engine just not sure what yet! It came with some goodies such as some Revolution wheels with yokos, a nice stainless exhaust and a new hood.

Looking forward to getting stuck in. Here's some pics, excuse the quality they're from my phone

That's correct Dave, axle is upside down in the photos

that looks much stronger...its a little confusing the pictures the way they are orientated but the "long bracket" is the panhard rod axle mount if i am not mistaken.

So, Dave Adam's popped down recently to pick up a gearbox and he mentioned that I should triangulate the shock mounts on the axle as where i've moved them to will be weaker.

I did some CAD (Cardboard aided design)

Then I cut them out of some 3mm steel

And then all welded in

Axle can now be painted and fitted to the car

I'm not sure Mike, I only get every other weekend to work on it and a couple of hours in the week. My aim is to make it move under its own steam this year

Wayne, it did have a fibre glass bulkhead and inner tub. The bulkhead wouldn't work with the engine arrangement, the turbo was too close and there was no where for the metering head to sit. I fabricated a new bulkhead and then thought i'd extend the tunnel a bit. I'm still using the part of the inner tub for the seat back, the alloy floor and the bulkhead should help stiffen the chassis a but which is good as it's going to have over twice the power it had originally

Some parts have arrived recently

I've got everything to get it back up to a rolling chassis, hoping to have it back on wheels by the end of june

Floor now riveted down (apart from the rear where the tub will be riveted to it) and one of the transmission tunnel sides attached. The other is drilled but can't be attached until the fuel lines are fitted

Also went down the scrapyard today, picked up a nice little header tank and a small denso alternator off some Daihatsu

Been painting a few bits at home over the past few days, they've been hanging from the washing line!

Been making some more interior panels

The passenger side does line up better than in the the pic below

Decided I should put an in inspection panel in the drivers one for getting to the metering head, made a plate and used some rivnuts, might put a couple more in before I rivet the main panel in place
