"The Phaeton in the tree is back on ebay" ??? I'm concerned, thought Dutton's were ground loving things, if they start taking to the trees? strewth, We're in trouble :-))
I've spent a little time looking at Malaga B+ chassis because it seems to me that the engine is quite a way behind the front axle, unlike the Phaeton on ebay (with the 2.8i that thinks its a 2.9i) where the engine is very close to the front axle. I found a picture of a Malaga B+ without its body on and took some measurements.
The three main components I modelled were the V6 engine (my one weighs 195Kg without alternator and starter), the Type 5 gearbox (my one weighs 45Kg with the cast bell housing) and the driver (my car's one weighs 110Kg). It turns out that the combination is pretty equally balanced between the two axles, with 51% on the rear. I am very surprised by that. So maybe the handling wouldn't be too bad as long as you were careful with the right foot.
Totally agree Dave, there does seem a lot of " hair splitting" when Dutton's come on the market.
As for the engine number? nothing a good welder, a die grinder and a set of stamps couldn't put right.
I would like one with the Westlake heads :-))
That looks to be in very nice condition. The engine bay is neat and tidy. Looks like there would have been enough space in that engine bay for a Rover V8. I think that the rocker covers really help to make the engine look good.
Do you know what gearbox it has and which axle?
I agree, most of the R.S's improvements were in the handling department, engine was bored, even kept the same cam and carb, still a nice car though, before anyone buys it I'd advise sitting in it first, very tight feel to it compared to later models. Small cockpit etc.
