Does any one have a clutch disc from a 2.0L pinto engine ( type 9, 5 speed) that they can measure the diameter of ? Or do you knowledgable blokes know this from memory?

put a standerd mondeo clutch in my car i know a 1.8 cvh pressure plate fits on the zetec flywheel
which cvh clutch was that then, 1.8 rear drive CVH is the same as standard sierra and that definitly does not repeat not fit a zetec flywheel. Reardrive and front drive ford clutches were designed to be different so the monkeys of the prod. line couldn't get it wrong.
Only front drive CVH's were the 1.3, 1.4 and 1.6 which used a different size clutch with differnt splines in the centre so can t be used on a rear drive gearbox.
You wouldn't need to move the pivot by anything like 1" so that sounds bogus to me.
There are three known options:
1 Burton Power steel flywheel, expensive but gaurenteed to work
2 Re-drill 1.8 Zetec flywwheel to suit sierra clutch - Gaurentted cos I've done it and proof it works was on display at Newark
3 QH CCT133 release BRG option. There seems to be lots of hassle getting the correct brg as many sold on ebay are wrong. I had a lot of trouble trying to track down the correct part anbd after buy three 'wrong' release brg's got hacked off and re-drilled the flywheel.
Attached is a pick of the required release brg for those who want to take a chance on that route.
my zetec is 2.0 and the cvh i have is from sierra i only got it for the box you need to move pivot to use a zetec clutch ie pressure and drive
so what were you on about with the cvh clutch on the zetec flywheel. I know its the same diameter and the splines are the same but neither the friction disc or cover are interchangeable.
right i have a 2.0 zetec /mk2 mondeo fit to type 9 from 91 sierra it has full mondeo clutch inclouding bearing from FWD gear box this needed an adapter + 1" spacer that go in place of the gearbox bearing gide. I used the cvh that i got with type 9 to do the math
surely the release brg slides off the end of the first motion shaft sleeve or at least rocks about a lot. Still if youvemade it work ok then well done to you :-)
Sorry Dave, no 2.0L pinto's were ever fitted with 7.5"clutch as standard but the 1.6L flywheel fits so someone had changed it previous to you. Not uncommon when people converted auto's to manual.
I've previously done this conversion but need a bit of a measurement if someone can oblige - in order to avoid me having to dismantle my SSC Stylus to see exactly what I did in 1997!
Standard Type9 gbox & release bearing
Standard Zetec 1.8 flyweel
Standard Sierra style CVH starter
Standard Mondeo Clutch plate/cover
Modified Type 9 clutch release arm
The modification to the release arm was to bring the release bearing closer to the flywheel by making it straighter. It was very simple: Just some simple cuts in the sides of the arm to enable it to be bent, and then the cuts were welded shut
This was very simple and it definitely works, so I want to do it again. The only question is how much to bend the arm. I can't quite remember.
However it's very easy to find out if someone has a Sierra clutch cover around? Could you please tell me the thickness of the clutch cover - just the bell shaped bit. So the amount of clutch arm bend needed will be equal to the difference in thickness between the Mondeo clutch (I have one of those) and the Sierra one. I reckon the difference is around 3/4" but I'd like to be sure
How thick is a Sierra Clutch cover bell?
Thanks
Steve
PS Although I originally did this with a 1.8, the stylus now has a 2.0 - and so does the Phaeton. Which Flywheel did I use? are they the same at the 1.8 anyway? argh I can't quite remember for sure. One thing has that already been confirmed with the 2.0 flywheel though, is that it does indeed work with the sierra style CVH starter
I've got an old one sitting on the garage floor, I'll check when I get home if no-one else has done the honours by then.
ooh that'd be handy!
I'm going outside in a bit to get going on that release arm - if someone has that sierra clutch cover plate bell measurement?
