Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

some pics of the rebuild process,

the top trailing arm bracket is broke......

the diff is sloping back a little (looking up) so that will need sorting.......

As you can see there isn't a lot of bracing in an S1 chassis, that will be sorted.

Looks interesting Dave, as Pete says, there is a lot of room in there, a lot more room compared to mine with the Zetec in.  My mate had a Lancia Fulvia, cant remember what engine it had, but it always used to beat my 2lt Capri !!!

Seeing as you have the engine and box ready fitted mounting wise, its got to be worth a punt.  oik it out and do a nice refurb job on it. Have you got the exhaust headders/manifold?

Here are the pictures of the car as it arrived at my place in September 2012. You can see it has number plates on it well one, the rear was in bits. Where would I get the reg number from if not off the car?

Page 22 on this forum....

i wish my car was that good when i started. when i picked it up i used a dustpan and brush to put it in the van LOL

I have the cast iron 4 branch manifold and most of the exhaust plus wiper motor and sundry parts i need a windscreen frame plus doors but will likely remove original interior mouldings ( they are unmolested) and fit an interior like my green S1. Could use some coil overs if any one has some.

I had some time to look t the spare car today and the engine in particular the whole top end looks new and its all missing the securing bolts (head and cam carriers) there is also what looks like a pair of performance piper cams with some very lumpy camshafts. the single webber down draught is a 38 DGAS.

I need a full set of head bolts........anyone got some? also any Haynes  manual for any car that uses the engine so i can rebuild the engine fully and to spec.....

I have Haynes that will cover the carb. Any good????

i actually own a autodata book on carbs, and the 38 DGAS is listed, but thanks for the offer. i really need some technical data on the engine for the rebuild purposes.

Amazon is a good place to get used haynes manuals, bought one before and postage was more than the manual!

The new car looks like its going to donate the whole front end to my green S1.....Because;

1: the new car has the original Dutton front end i.e. cut down spitfire springs, these should be fine at 180lb/in shortened so giving about 200lb/in. This means i get to keep the new(ish) AVO's i have at the moment, also the bonnet will require a fair amount of modifying to be as i want it with the twin headlights. so the Green S1 gets the original 7" headlights back on.

2: Sandy wants me to sell my Green S1 as its "unlucky for us"

3: i want to fit the ford Cortina uprights to the new car so would have to modify it any way

4: the new car has 13" wellers with newish tyres 205/60's .... triumph PCD on the front and ford at the rear, but only 4 wheels. i want a set of 5 ford 14" wellers so the green S1 gets the 13" wheels as well

5: repairing the green S1 will take much less time.....

6: there is a possibility that the log book for the new car is winging its way towards me, so i will have a viable S1 project to build over the winter....again.

So the idea is to end up with two complete cars?

That's the plan with the green S1 being sold soon afterwards, its a nice looking car and i have no doubt it will find a buyer. once its rebuilt it will go for a geometry check to be sure its straight. But i have confidence in my ability.
