Hi folks,
Just a quick one:
I've got a Dutton Phaeton S3 with an 1800 CVH from a Ford Sierra and a Granada 2.8 gearbox. The engine is stuffed and needs to come out.
What chance is there that I can disconnect the engine from the box while in the car, and simply crane the engine out the top, leaving the box in situ?
Or will it be less fiddling to disconnect the prop, linkage and other bits and pull the whole lot out?
Cheers

I've done engine only in both the Legerra and the Sierra, pretty sure if you remove the bonnet you'll have no issues. A lot will depend on access to bolts around the top of the bellhousing.
The agro comes when you try to remove the gearbox and leave the engine in place
Engine only, just be prepared for the odd bolt that skins a knuckle :-) I took out my engine mounts, lowered the engine an inch or so to get at top bell housing bolts,
I've got all the bolts out and have all the manifolds, starter, alternator etc stripped off.
There's a bar across the chassis at the front of the engine which will limit how much I can pull the engine forwards - I'm not sure if it'll be enough for me to get the flywheel and clutch out and past the bellhousing.
Had to stop play for the day (and indeed the next few weeks) so it's sitting in with one engine mount bolt on each side and no gearbox bolts! No nasty surprises so far though.
Are you thinking of the crossflow engine Daryl? On the CVH the water pump is off the cam belt.
