Brian I will send you pm a about this as there seems to be a lot of muddying of the topic again.

thanks steve

hey chaps we all are different and have different opinions and together you all have a wealth of experiance . i would be screwed without the help you all give me. i value all your opinions ......peace brothers :-)

good. mm looks like mk1 escort. only one pump other one is a filter....and whats a swirl pot..?

mm some of them hot hatches were amasing in the 90s god pug 205 1,9 gti. ren 5 gt turbo. fiesta rs turbo. god they were all rapid.

thanks for that. nope no swirl pot. well its run for years without one so in guessing its not needed.  no play today heavy rain.

ok sierra not playing. not starting. the only time i get it anywear   near starting is when i squirt easy start in the air intake. so im thinking fuel is not getting to the injection system. so had the fuel pump off. tested working. noticed the in line filter i fitted is not getting any fuel in it or very little. it is facing the right way. on the fuel pipe that connects to the top of the tank...the exit one. should i be able to blow into that. because iv tried it and cant at all. im thinking its blocked. also yesterday when i disconected the pipe (the one that connects to the top of the tank.) i noticed like sticky oily shit dripping out of it...no idea what that is.

any help greatly apreciated chaps

At a guess I would say the black goo is the remains of the severely degraded pipe thats been sat with fuel in for X years.

Try to avoid dropping the filler neck end of the tank, pain in the backside. Is there a sender unit access plate in the boot floor? The out pipe comes through the sender unit - change the feed pipe from tank to filter. DO NOT try to pump fuel without that filter ! If the tank lining has degraded then the inside of the tank will be corroded and may flake into the fuel - this will not help.

With a job like this, you should be following the principles of basic mechanics ......... Take it to bits, clean up all components, inspect them and and rebuild using new bits as and where necessary....... Simples.

So start from the tank end:- Pick up pipe screen, Pick up pipe, fuel pipes, fuel pump and filters, fuel lines to and from front. Clean all the gunk and crap from everything including the tank!

Then start with fuel system on the engine, same procedure.

ok chaps i think iv got it. tank is now off. i cannot suck petrol or air from the sender unit so looks like its blocked in the tank. i sucked it like a w***e and nothing. ....thankyou for your help :--)))

had to make a slight mod to get the tank filler neck off. a pretty good guess i think....:-)))
