Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

Are any SWeDO's (South West Dutton Owners) thinking of going to the Exeter Kit Car Show, if so which day? I am determined to get there in my Legerra for its first showing (not that it is a show car). It is 80 miles from my door, so I reckon that I'm pretty likely to make it without incident. It would be a good chance to meet up and show that Duttons are still viable fun cars. Let's hope that the weather is friendly.

Good day out, interested to know the differences in the legerra's James is different to mine. My battery is in the boot and James battery is in the passenger inner wing. Did like the colour changing paint :)

There were more pirates than crooks.

Hey, what am I doing agreeing with you? I'm a North Londoner. I haven't become a 'Brizzle' yet. My first 20 years down here were spent in Portishead and in that time it changed from a Zummerset town to a cosmopolitan marina resort. I don't reckon I can achieve the same transformation with Patchway.

so James, next year at Stoneleigh, i take it you will ber the one in the striped jumper with the swag bag lol, and the Devon lot will be the ones with the jolly roger flying from their roll bars,

I still can't get over doing 171 miles without breaking down or overheating. I did have a rather embarrassing cloud of smoke every time that I restarted it when it was hot (3 sets of services) but, apart from that, everything worked and stayed screwed on. And I was warm and comfortable. Result.

bet your pleased, so i assume the mods you made have worked what did you do to cure the overheating in the end?

I replaced the radiator, refitted the fan, replaced the water pump, the thermostat and the fan belt. I haven't done anything about ducting yet or vents, but I am thinking about that.

If it only happens after a 'rest' and its blue tinted smoke then it's probably a valve guide seal. Even after replacing mine when Dave and I rebuilt the engine I still get a little on start up. It's a stupid little seal and a pain in the arse to fit.

From what I saw there was no blue in the smoke, it was very white.

The other thing that I noticed was tyre rub on the rear wheel arches over bumps. It was made worse by having the boot full with a spare wheel, jack, heavy tool box, water, hi-viz jacket and a tank full and that heavy "seat to steering wheel interface". In total it was not a great deal of extra weight but it was enough to make a difference. I will have to get around to fitting my new coil-overs. I bought some longer GAZ ones but I haven't fitted them yet because the eyes of the damper are 12mm i.d. but the lower fixing is a 13mm stud. I am not sure about drilling it out but I don't really want to change the lower Ford fixing. I probably should speak to the suppliers (Rally Design) about it.

I get the occasional squeak from the rears when we do tours fully loaded but I can normally get away with a full load when i'm on my own. Adjustables will certainly help.

Did you take the Dutton then, Steve? I've got some spare spacers you could have Steve, would seem a shame for you not to have some!

You wouldn't have got me off the ground that easily. Poor donkey.
