Rob, I don't know why people don't bitch at me, maybe its because i'm not interested in bitching and politics. I owned up to my mistake in public, apologised and am fixing it. I don't do dirty laundry on a public forum unless its my own. Everyone elses is none of my business.
The club survived for over 14 months with no magazine, did anyone gripe at Piers, no. Thanks to Dave Adams and Steve Kerswell we have had 5 or 6 mags recently. The last but one issue we ran out because we were sending them to members who hadn't renewed hoping they would. I didn't even get to keep a copy for myself. This issue has been restricted to members who are recorded as having paid. If people haven't received a copy yet it may be that I haven't been informed of a renewal. There are a few I have been made aware of this week who will be sent theirs. I posted out a reminder to all the members I didn't have email addresses for and emailed all those that have. Your email bounced as I had the wrong address on file. I am going to repost the email below for anyone who hasn't received it.
When I took over from Samantha in 2010/11 I was given boxes and boxes of file cards and folders full of forms dating back to 1980, a book like a register dating back to the mid 90's and a microsoft works database that also dated back to the mid 90's. 635 hours of sitting at my computer typing data into excel, working out macro's, formulas, making HTML interfaces and mail merge documents and most of that info is now on one memory stick and the mem sec's laptop, (and two backups) i'm still working on it, I have spent more time working on behalf of the club than I have working on both my cars.
I'm not posting again on this subject. I've got better things to do with my time. I think I am the easiest member of the committee to contact as I am permanently logged into all the dutton related forums, get email delivered to my phone and two or three computers. There is always more to these things than reaches the public forums and at some point, probably the AGM, these things may be aired in public, until then I'm just going to get on with the job I volunteered to do and stay out of the politics that just seem to be detrimental to the club.
Below is the email i sent out to all the unpaid members who had active email addresses.
If you still haven't paid and wish to renew by paypal use the link below.
As some of you are well aware I have been behind with the memberships this year and I would like to apologise for this.
Due to various reasons things haven’t gone as smoothly as anyone in the club would have liked them to go. With the completion of this round of renewal reminders I will be back on track and once the magazines have been sent out we, as a club, will be ‘up to date’. I expect that the magazines will be sent in the next few days, as soon as the printer receives the address labels.
To complete payment by paypal please use this link.
To remove yourself from the club mailing list please reply to the email and change the subject of the email to STOP and I will remove you from the mailing list.
Should you receive this email more than once please contact me on the above address and I will investigate.
If you have paid at a show during the course of 2013 please let me know who you paid and at which show.
If you have any questions or queries please contact me.
Thanks for your patience and also for continuing to support the Dutton Owners Club.
Adrian
Daily backups sounds like an excellent idea, Daryl, nobody wants all of the hard work to be undone by a hardware error or by any number of other ways that it could be lost.
Daryl, please, that would put me straight back in rehab, and after i have been doing so well :(
All the more reason to protect it as it your loss, your effort and your time, if it was work then it'd be the company's loss. You need to get your priorities right! :-)
Fair point! I did have 2 backup kettles though.
