Sulking because of the rain Dave... Starter fell off this morning, well slipped out of place anyway. That was fun.
we are all waiting for James latest update really...
James' latest is I ordered the paint from work, he decided that Escort Mexico green with the mexico Mk1 graphic's would look good, changing the word Mexico to Seirra, and I have to agree.
So paint ordered, which for reason's beyond me my company shipped direct from Belgium head office, charging me 21% Belgium VAT, and £40.00 delivery making £184.00.
For I am just about to plead to my Boss' better nature, and ask for a discount.
Steve, there's not room in Bolton for 2 red Dutton's and when you hold the perfection trophy for the RED one, he would constantly be in your shadow.
The paint as been sorted to a more realistic cost, so we are happy.
The aluminium road block is packed and ready to roll, and off we go to the great french wine drinking contest (sorry Holiday). Just hope the weather improves. should do over the next 3 weeks.
I've been too busy trying to find a really cheap runaround as the turbo went on my daily car on wednesday, no time for the Dutton this week although a new wiring loom arrived and has been added to the growing mound of bits
I have been driving round northern France for the last 6 days and my S1 was almost faultless (n/s wiper arm is set a little low and was jamming on screen rubber sometimes, but it only rained on the way down to Dover on last Saturday, and for an hour on Thursday on our way to La Touquet) The roof was left off for the whole time from Saturday to Thursday, I almost forgot how to put it back on.
The S1 was surprisingly comfortable if we kept to about 2 - 2 1/2 hours between stops on the longer trips, and I am sure it is getting quicker the more I drive it. I did recently find however that my pinto engine wasn't out from a scrap car as i expected but was fitted brand new by a previous owner. he claimed to have only done "a few miles" in it before selling it, and the next owner only had the car on the road 10 days before his brother dismantled the car to improve it, in which condition I bought it some 5 years later. So the 10000+ miles of thrashing I have given it has run it in nicely.
The speedo in my car is electronic and can be set for Mph or Kph and for the trip was obviously set for Kph, it showing over 2000kms by the time we got home. (1200+ miles) Fuel consumption was surprisingly good considering we were driving with the roof down at speeds of 120-130 kph (70-80mph) we were getting over 30mpg. I do however have a perspex screen behind the seats between the "roll bar" which makes it less draughty, well enough that I can still wear my baseball cap at 80mph with out it getting sucked off my head all the time. it is still very draughty, so you don't loose the wind in your hair experience.
Congratulation, you made it with the need of a breakdown crew, but the wife loves you now.
We could have met up Dave, we just travelled to the Loire today with the Aluminium road block. 3 weeks here in France, and missing Daisy Dutton already, (pass the red wine before I get upset)

hi answer to question!!i am in winsford ,cheshire,my dutton s3 pheaton is sadly on my dads drive with no mot or tax.but will be some back on the road,as iam just built a shed for her so i can paint her and put back on road!

This is a direct copy of the info I was given.
It would be nice to see the whole car re-assembled and working.
If too many bits are needed by current owners the we will have to see whats left afterward.

I want the engine, box and diff for the legerra. The 5 link thats partially finished was sortof copied from a legerra one anyway but that will stay with the car. Anyway, heres the details. All the items marked in bold are still available at this moment.

I have a Dutton Phaeton Series 3, registered, more-or-less complete, and in bits. It's been in bits for a few years, the components being stored in my garage which is reasonably dry. The body has been outside alas, but it's fibreglass and all of the interior was removed, so it shouldn't have suffered much.

So, being absolutely honest, whereas there is no reason why I shouldn't have all the components, I cannot absolutely guarantee that I have every nut and bolt and so on. What I know I do have is:


205 Block 2L Ford Pinto with Piper Magnum cam. I de-coked the head and reconditioned the whole top end (I think - pretty sure it was this engine!). It's been stored on a proper engine stand, covered in plastic for a few years. I haven't tried cranking it, but I will. It came out of a Sierra GLSi with about 80k on the clock if I remember correctly.
Weber 38DGAS Carb. Not sure how it's jetted - possibly for the original V6, but that's not a problem - WebCon should sort it out (carb is still boxed)
Correct inlet manifold for the above engine and carb and gaskets (pretty sure I have the gaskets anyway)
Piper air filter (brand new, still boxed) with gasket
Phaeton Series 4 chassis - fits all the S3 components exactly, but much stronger. I had it sandblasted a few years back - it has surface rust on it again now, but it's been stored in a dry garage for all that time. There is a very small hole in the rear section where the welder blew through (I was looking at converting to a 5-link at the time). Just needs a patch.
Body and Bonnet (with all fittings; windscreen etc.)
Canvas door things
Canvas roof (I think) and hoop - although a mouse ate some of the roof so it needs a patch

Salisbury axle from the 2.8 Capri with brand new drums, pistons and pads
An original Ford Limited Slip Diff (yup, believe it or not)
I actually have a couple of axles, so you can mix and match. I was converting it to a 5-link (a very highly recommended conversion) so I ground a lot of the metal stuff off at least one axle, but not the other (I don't think)
Springs and hangers (again, I think)
Seats and spare vinyl to re-trim if necessary
Instrument console and original or new dash
New 'Classic' wiring loom - forget the name of the company, but you see them at most kit car shows. The only thing I stole from the loom bag was some spade crimps. The rest is all there.
I have all the stub axles, front suspension wishbones, shocks, coil-overs etc. The shocks were nothing special - you might want to consider replacing them with new ones and springs, as someone has cut the springs down to lower it (it didn't half handle)
Steering rack, pedal box, etc. etc. Exhaust (not sure whether it's the one from the Sierra or the original Dutton but it wasn't a sports exhaust). Steering wheel, lights etc. etc.

I have at least two gear boxes - the Type 9 5-speed (which would work great) or the (I think it was called) Type E four speed. Either would need a recondition I think as they have been in the greenhouse for some years!

Various other bits and bobs

Most importantly I have the V5, some build photos, and somewhere (I think) the build manual although the Dutton Owners Club should still have these. What I would say is that if you take it, and find bits missing, I will do everything I can to find them - they are all going to be in the garage somewhere! Stuff that might get missed (and to be honest be missing) would be fasteners and such like. I can also provide all the Haynes manuals - unfortunately the Dutt is a combination of Ford Sierra, Escort and Granada, and also Triumph. I have Haynes for all of these I think.

So, I guess that the items of any value really are the V5, LSD and axle stuff (i I had to go to Gravesend for that), the loom (that was about 100 notes when I bought it), and the carb. And the car itself. I am reluctant to eBay it, because changes are some pillar of society will buy it for the V5 and illegally register their Locost or something. That isn't to say that this generally happens with Locost owners - it doesn't.
