The springs don't seem to sit correct. Surely the spring eye should not be resting directly on the underside of the chassis. Advice, photos, all welcome. Dave
This is Phaeton S2 - correct. If so it should have MK2 Cortina rear leaf springs
Thats not right...looks to be about 1 inch short on the spring length. I've got some in the drive if you want another set of end to end measurements.
Makes sense, as I have always thought the axle was too far foward as the diff area rubs the seat tub.
Marvellous yet another paranoid conspiracy theorist in my circle of acquaintances. .....
A question. I have obtained some MK2 Escort springs, will these fit on an S2? They will be 10mm wider, can this be overcome? Or do I get some Mk1 or cortina springs? Advice please
What about cranked shackles, sure one of the escorts used them, possibly the mk2 van or estate which retained the 50mm chassis rails as they were still a mark one chassis underneath.
I also think I have a set of saddles from a mk2 Dave.
Ade, just been measuring the current springs on the car. They are 60mm wide, so should be able to get the MK2 Escort springs to fit. Measuring the length of the MK2 Escort springs compared to the current ones on the car, they seem to be a better length, approx 40 to 50mm longer which will put the hanger shackles in a better line. Given that it currently has 60 km springs, I should be able to use the existing (subject to closer inspection). Thanks for the offer.
I may be wrong but aren't Escort springs shorter than Cortina?
There if you need them. :)
I reckon you must be due a visit shortly,
