some pics of the rebuild process,

the top trailing arm bracket is broke......

the diff is sloping back a little (looking up) so that will need sorting.......

As you can see there isn't a lot of bracing in an S1 chassis, that will be sorted.

Today spent looking at steering columns and pedal box's, i have a Triumph steering column and two Mountney steering wheels with Triumph adaptors, and one Ford Escort Mk 2 column with Mountney steering wheel and Boss. 

The trouble is that the Ford Column is incomplete having no switch shroud....or switches, and the triumph one is not in great condition, and also has incomplete switch shrouds.

the thing is the pedal box position is affected by the steering column position.....

anyone got anything to help sort out this mess please?

What do you need Dave? column switches and shroud for the escort column?

That would be the best solution for me the escort column is in much better condition, the triumph one has very worn bushes.

The Ignition switch isn't likely to be an issue, but it may well make life easier if i can find one.

not a lot done today because a good friend has lost his father,  the pedal box has been fitted and the steering column......a little more work and it should be sot on.

and.......

The steering column may need a little support at the rack end, but it actually works well the way it is right now.

its about time that engine was fired up again,,

Well i got round to modifying the front engine mount, it now has about 3 1/2" inches between the front engine bracket and the chassis. This will make it so much easier to remove the engine anytime in the future.

What i did was separate the mount i made and added two short sections of 1 1/2" box section, then welded it all back together......not a difficult job and its doubled the available space to lift out the engine.

The engine was positioned by eye.......and to give best leg room for the pedal box.....it looked central so i measured it just to see, it is central.....11" from rocker cover to chassis side rails either side.

Well i think its almost finished the welding, just a little adjustment to the back axle, and then the front.....and then its clean all the chassis and paint it. then start the reassembly.

Thanks Daryl and James.......this year I am sure but stoneleigh may be a little ambitious I think......but fingers crossed.

No pictures tonight but i have put two pieces of 45mm x 2mm steel flat bar where the prop shaft meets the diff for protection if the prop ever lets go......and also fabricated some hand brake lever mounts.

i will just keep chipping away at it until its done ;-)

I was talking to someone the other day who had a prop let go, destroyed his tunnel and gave him a pretty nasty gash in his leg. Luckily one of the following cars was a nurse with a first aid kit. It was a hospital jobbie for a couple of days. So it makes sense to protect yourself.
