Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

I have a 2.0l pinto in both my Melos and my Legerra. Both have currently got the cast iron exhaust manifold. I think that a 4-2-1 exhaust should give me a bit of extra power without having to change anything else or affecting the driveability and economy (I am getting 28mpg commuting in the Legerra). I have seen some 4-2-1 systems on ebay, starting from £103. But my question is does anyone know of one that will fit, or will they all fit? I keep thinking that an exhaust for an Escort ought to fit but I don't want to find out that it doesn't the hard way. So has anyone else fitted one, and if so which one. I was considering ebay item 350761253848 or 270715524959.

You need one made specifically for the pinto James, i have two 1300GT X/Flows with 4-2-1 manifolds and im fairly sure they would not fit a pinto head and of course they are for the n/s on a X/Flow , its for the o/s on a pinto as you know, so even if they would bolt to a pinto head. they would point the wrong way !

my pinto gets about the same as yours often less C-22mpg and if i really try as low as 8-9mpg!!

GBS (robin hood) sell pinto manifolds for about £100 or so i think.

I have changed the manifold on the Legerra to a single output cast unit from a Sierra, casting mark is '84 and a much better design.

The Sierra uses a Twin outlet Sierra unit but its a pain in the arse to get a downpipe to fit.

Yep the twin outlet one can be a pain as a custom cut and shut downpipe is needed but it IS a much better performer than the single outlet one. With little work and a good free flowing exhaust the twin outlet sierra manifold will just about cover 150bhp the single outlet one becomes a restriction at about 120bhp.

The robin hoody manifolds are pretty poor and you'll need to do a lot to make it fit/work.

Hi james i have a mild steel tubular manifold for a pinto if your interested i could post a photo not sure but i think its a 4-2-1 configuration

Yes, a photo would be good. There isn't a great deal of room on that side of the engine with the steering, master cylinder and clutch cable all in the same area. Its not the money that puts me off getting one, it is the thought of wasting the money.

here is the pics im open  to offers it is a narrow manifold so it may fit i can send sizes if that helps

Hi, came across this post and wondered if anyone came up with a solution ? did this fit a phaeton ? as I have the same problem, need to find a four branch to fit my car. Would be grateful for any help that can be offered, many thanks, Mark.

As far as I know there isn't an 'off the shelf' solution as the steering column and engine mounts or bulkhead are always getting in the way. Having one made may be the easiest solution in the long run. I had the same issue on my Legerra and am now using a cast manifold from an '84 Sierra (ford)
