The Sierra is giving me jip. Running rich, high tickover (1200 rpm), mixture screw is fully in - 1/4 turn back, starts misfiring at 2000 - 2200 rpm, throttle stop screw is backed off and not making contact, throttle cable has slack and is free moving, as it the throttle linkage assembly. Looking for places to start.
I will be doing a compression test when I get home tomorrow and will change the condenser too.
Anyone got anymore thoughts?

I now have the Sierra carb on the bench and found a loose nut on the carb to manifold join :-(
Emulsion tubes are F50, idle jets are all 45 on ALL the carbs so I guess i'm stuck with those for the moment. mains are currently 140/142, air correctors I have 170 and 175 available. service kit being fitted so new mixture screw and idle jet O rings, gaskets all round, new filter for the fuel inlet, some bits for the autochoke which I havent dissassembled so i'll keep them handy. I'll make sure to set all the screws to the right amount of turns before its refitted so I know where I am starting from. Might even go and get that manual choke kit too... don't like auto chokes.
Vacumn ports on the carb are connected as per weber diagram, one on the base to the diaphram on the secondary side, one to the AR unit on the dizzy. All manifold vac ports are capped except the crankcase oil breather inlet which is correctly connected.
I think after all this it better work...OR ELSE THERE WILL BE TROUBLE... you hear me car? mumble mumble.

Tis indeed useful Dave. Give me somewhere to start playing with jets. I must have close to those standard sizes in one of these units.

Thanks for the offer steve but I have more carbs than I can handle already. Its just a case of making one work right I think.
Its helped me understand the proberble cause of my 1300GT X/Flows poor mpg even when driven as economicly as possible, its got a 32/36DGAV fitted, so it could be jetted for 1.6 or 2.0L pinto :-(
Progress update - I stink.
Gunk, unleaded and carb cleaner, I'm wearing all of them.
Carb rebuilt, refitted and re plumbed, auto choke engaged and as soon as it had dragged some fuel from the tank it fired up.
Still seems to be a lot of carbon in the exhaust when revved but the choke was still on when it ran out of fuel...again.
No sign of any reluctance though seems to be a very revvy pinto :-)
I'm off to get a couple of cans and then take it out for a little test drive.
It would appear that I need to listen to my own advice. A little while back I advised Steven Rickard that his brake issue might have been down to the adjuster fitted to the pedal, the one that is threaded onto the master cylinder actuator rod. Mine would appear to have been an inch too long and even when the pedal was fully up the rod was not fully retracted. I lopped an inch off and with much cursing and contorting of the wrists and neck managed to refit it without dropping the master cylinder out. I'll find out if it worked before I take the unused calipers back.

Well after grafting over the carb all day and thinking I had it sussed I went for a test drive and its made absolutely no bloody difference. When you put it under load, no power, wont accelerate, after its been warmed up its running like dog poo, carb rebuild wasn't the answer. Good to know its been done but still not the answer.
Its dark now and Sue is going to want to go to club night pretty soon.
Next on the list has to be coil, condenser and compression, I didn't do them this morning as it was tipping it down.

Try the carb on the leggy if you can just to confirm it isn't the carb.
Check cam timing cos its easy to do then compression
Don't understand how you would have a fast idle without it being due to the intake somewhere?
At least hopefully you can write off carb issue, did you try the leggy carb, before you started stripping carbs down? , prehaps you should do as vern surgests,
it does sound more like a timing issue though, have you put the vaccuum hose back on, blanked off any unused connections , is the dizzy vacuum unit working? ive had that myself on my angle box, the vacuum advance stopped working and it ran like a pig, no pulling power etc it can only be accellorator pump diafram, or timing
I think its worse than that.
