Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

Well another grand day out pity it's getting same old things. loads of cheap (Over priced) tat for sale in the warehouses. Although not much shopping time left after the AGM.

Managed to get a pair of H4 head lamp conversions for £20 Hope they're not tat, they do look OK time will tell, and after the trip home in the dark they should be an improvement the 2 candle fitted now.

We left about 5:30 after a fuel stop, it was agreed that we would go through Ashbourne A515 and stop for a meal just outside Buxton.

We got to the pub, asked if we had booked, they said "we'll have a table in about 15 minutes" that came and went, we should have left then, but landlord again said a table was being cleaned. Finally sat down at 7:25 with a drink in hand our order placed, and waited, and waited and waited, Steve asked how long the food would be "15 minutes" came the answer, then "Next to be served" then the landlord came to say sorry they had forgotten our order, but we could have a bottle of wine on the house. As we were driving we refused this offer and asked for discount on the food, to which he became a little disgruntled saying this is a busy weekend and we hadn't booked. Still no food came and finally at 9:20 we got up and walked out, the bin can enjoy our food.

It was 11:00 by the time I had dropped Steve Kerry off and got home. On the up side Daisy Dutton performed well over the 250 mile journey returning about 33 mpg.

I bought a whole loads of bits for my project there yesterday. Loada money! I hope if wasnt too overpriced!

On the other hand I did hold off buying a 220ish quid radiator! (I need a narrow one on my S3 to fit into the end bit of the chassis, you see and I 'd like some good cooling capacity). Just as well, later on I met a chap with a Dax Rush who had a very suitable looking item for his turbo nutter machine - apparently it came from a Mercedes 190 and has more capacity than the often-used polo item. Checked on ebay when I got home: 60quid - not bad!

Still at least I have some nice LED lights to play with!

And the weather at Stoneleigh? You couldn't ask for better.

PS Who has that IRS phaeton I saw - and how does that work?

I bought various bits and some materials - rubber sheet, waterproof carpet, aluminium sheet and rod, some aluminium welding stuff plus I bought a pair of seats from the Midlands Wheels stand. I bought red trimmed mini cubs. They are narrower than needed and offer no side support. There was only one of their bucket seats that I fitted but it would not fit in either of my cars. We carried the seats back to my estate car. After that it was 4:30 and we were too knackered to come back, so I didn't get time to see either of the main halls. I should have camped.

I also wanted to buy some glass fibre stuff because I am really into that at the moment, but I forgot until I was halfway home. I shall have to get it mail-order.

I take it we won't be planning a visit there on one of our runs Dave.

I did eventually get to the halls today, bought some tan coloured piping to experiment with (thats upholstery piping not 'plumbing') and a couple of little cleaning brushes for the air grinder, total spent under £20, didn't have anything else that was on my shopping list, time for a trip to the breakers on the way home from work.

I filled the legerra up before leaving Derby sunday and again monday, £25.50 to do the round trip and thats without booting it.

Haven't worked out my total mileage this weekend but it's up over 450 somewhere so I guess the engine is bedded down now. Time for another oil change and a check for metallic particles.

My total for the return trip was 300 miles almost to the mile and with most of the journey with the roof off. the fuel used worked out somewhere around 29.5 mpg. Not bad considering its a pinto and i was cruising at 70-80 mph most of the way.

as for the show, well i didn't buy anything this year. A first for me......
