What type of welding gear do people use? How thin are you happy to weld?
In the past I have used gas, mig and arc but I am well out of practice.
I have a small arc welder which I've been most successful when using the carbon rods to strike an arc then braze. I can blow holes with the welding rods with ease!
The mig welder is again a small "domestic" model and after some initial trials I haven't much confidence that I won't just blow holes more quickly with it.
When using "proper" industrial gear the current seems much more stable and easier to use.
So what have you got and how well does it work and what thickness steel do you use?

Just checked the garage and my arc welder is a 140A SIP and the mig is a Sealey 130A with the disposable gas bottle

I use the aldi 150A mig welder. its built (rebuilt my S1) twice. i have had no problems with it or the quality of the welds (fully impact tested ;-).....)

Impact tested, :)) thats known as the threepenny ring method where i work i shant go into details, but i would guess that steve will know what i mean
