Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

So as a follow on to Dave's hijacked thread about the legerra here are a couple of shots of the body mods done on my Legerra.

The front end is a wing, all be it a small one it still has an effect on airflow at speed, especially 60+ mph.

Look at the two pictures and see if you can spot the difference.

Now apart from the obvious reg plate, lights etc did anyone notice the depth of the lower openings has changed? I cut the bumper from one side to the other with a fine bladed jigsaw and plenty of masking tape. Apart from the return edge inside the front wheelarch. I then wedged the gap open until the bottom of the bumper and the top were parallel, fitted glassfibre rods (old tent poles cut down) and glassed it back up.

That means the top edge shown here now angles up thereby forcing the air under the bonnet rather than under the car. This does have an effect on both handling and cooling. This is the area I intend to make a mould for, forcing the air up and infront of the radiator.

Up the other end of the car is the other mod...

The answer is...

This is another 'wing'. It has a rounded front edge and curves upward over the last 2/3rds. I have no idea whether it actually does any good but it hides the back of the petrol tank from behind.

And before you ask... its a split system in stainless, both pipes work and it cost me more than the car did.

But it's worth every penny.

I like the changes. If only mine were a colour that I could match then I could do similar things. At the moment I'm more concerned about getting rid of engine bay heat. So I was thinking of extra holes at the front and maybe a couple of slots in the front wheel arches between the wheel opening and the edge of the door - there should be low pressure there. I also fancy a couple of slots across the bonnet, just behind the radiator, to let the warm air out. I'd like to get to a position where the electric fan stays off as I cruise on the motorway.

I like the mod's
Looks like a good job and I think the back end looks much better. I was helping dave with his new legerra last weekend and it seems that cooling and engine bay air circulation are a bit of a challenge on the legerra. Dave's adding some ducting to his radiator which should help a bit.
As for the engine bay I think that will be a bit more of a challenge without changing the look of the car.
