Alloy wheel lacquer removal

Any tips to get old lacquer off alloy wheels? Peggy's new wheels are black with turned fronts which have then been lacquered but it's bubbling. Don't really want to take the black off 'cos that's fine, just the lacquer from the turned fronts. Last night with a combination of a chisel and a chunk of fibreglass sheet I managed to scrape it off one wheel, but it wasn't fun and caused some scratches. Any easier methods?

Also, I wasn't going to bother replacing the lacquer, thought the occasional polish with autosol would do instead? I don't like the idea that once it starts to bubble under the laquer, you can't polish it off without removing the lacquer all over again. Or is that nuts?

if you can find some industrial strength paint stripper....unfortunately nitromors wont do it any more and is almost worse than useless.

As long as they are clean when you apply the lacquer it should be fine for years. Normally its kerbing and salt from the winter not being washed off that causes lacquer peal and bubbling. I think you will fine they corrode quickly if you don't reapply any
