hi looks like my alt has gone down brand new 4 months ago. its kicking out 11-12 volt at the back thats no good is it ...???

I think that you should be seeing 14.5 V or so. It does sound like it's packed up. Can you think of any reason why it might have gone? You haven't jump started a neighbour's car or something else demanding?

Alternators ain't cheap and you most definitely get what you pay for. If you got it locally them take it back and ask for a replacement. If it was an ebay item throw the distance selling act at them and see what happens. If you want me tocheck prices let me know and  i will.

As long as he will replace it ... ask him who he gets them from. If it's euro car parts ask for a refund...

they dont like excessive heat....my pinto engined car had to have an ally heat shield fitted between it and the exhaust manifold to stop the exhaust frying the alternator. i gave up with the Lucas 17 ACR types and fitted a bosch unit that came off a FWD rover out of a scrap yard. so long as the brackets are in a similar positions they can be made to fit....
