All, question to throw out there but what events do you as individuals and the DOC plan to attend this year to show case Duttons.
My opinions in this matter is that I feel we should essentially raise Dutton's profile and hopefully for good? I know I'm new to this club so may be opening old wounds or simply going over old ground but in my opinion we should attend as many event and with the most amount of cars (easily said I know). i know the comments of "quality" cars will crop up but there's lots of people here who are apparently building cars!?
Anyway here is my new topic and I hope I haven't upset anyone or trodden on anyone's toes.

and other car shows and a massive dutton fest somewhere in the midlands where most of us South based owners can get together other than Stonleigh possibly a car show, with an open invitation to our northern friends
good point but i like going coz can get pissed and have a camp fire!
what about a DOC track day then!!!
track days have been attempted and even organised however only half of those members who express an interest bother to show up (if that many) so they have limited appeal to organise.
They are also expensive at £100+ per car being common. the trouble is that the club pays in advance to book the track and than tries t recover costs from attending members....who then don't show up increasing costs for those that do.
The club has used landau (spelt that right? ...its in south Wales) and there is the other problem its 4+ hours driving for me each way, and were i to break my car it will be very expensive to get it home. this i suspect is the problem for most folks.
not that i want to any way pee on your bonfire or anything.
I agree with you so far as in that a lot of guys are not interested, but then, why have a kit car, i aim to use mine, and go to shows, i'm lucky in that i have friends in other clubs that would make me welcome and whilst i would love to be involved in getting as many southern dutton owners as possible to join in, if it goes belly up, i have other clubs that i can join and i will enjoy my car regardless.
Northern Duttoneers are unique in that there is a group of like minded people very close to each other, Down here, there is not, so prehaps it might be just as well to join other local clubs but then you have to ask in that case why join Dutton owners club ? in my view if us South based members don't at least try, then the club might as well only exist as a body to help members , and not have a social side to it.

what i meant is if your going to join a club then you should join in, like you, i know that there are other members localish to me, but have only ever meet one so far, but know 30 people who own kit cars in other clubs, and i dare say you are in the same boat .
In my heart i know the answer , its join a local club, actually it may be a good thing, other people who may see Duttons as being trash, might be pleasently suprised, and only come up for the AGM at Stonleigh, but then, you still have to ask why join in the first place?? take this to its conclusion and the DOC could well fail, and we members will only have ourselves to blame.

Steve your right it as got a bit FBish, thats the main reason I asked everyone to use the forum instead of Status comment, it is still good for banta, but I feel it needs more build techie stuff, You guys down South are all building, so keep us up to date with what your up to. It's doesn't matter if you're planning to put an article in DT, get it posted here. I post here, on The Northern Duttoneers website and send stuff to DT for printing. We all have different skill sets on here, some of you still working with spanners for a living. I have clean soft hands these days and the only thing I can do to my RAV 4 is fill the washer bottle and that only because it as a symbol on it.

Mike, dont get disheartened, i am very pro getting a southern duttoneers going, and once we get enough cars on the road then hopefully we can have a bit of fun, but you cant force people to do anything, so carry on with your building, i am,
the point i am making is that the club appears to be stronger up north, mostly because most of you have done the hard work and can enjoy the fruit of your labours , down here we are thinner on the ground and theres the distance problem, for instance to get together with our friends who live the other side of london would mean a long trip, and vise versa, so local runs are best done with your local car club, if you cant get enough duttons interested but a special run ; a couple of times a year to enable us to meet would be worth exploring
I disagree on the subject of technical help, as I have received considerable help and advice from participants on this site. Without it I probably would have made many stupid decisions. More importantly, I would not have felt confident about some of the tasks and that lack of confidence is very disabling, especially when the weather is cold - suddenly it can all seem too much and you just give up.
I can agree that standing around in a field could be very boring. You end up talking to 'strangers' so you go into a different mode. After time, then maybe you can relax more with those people and get more out of it. A site that includes the chatter, like "faceache", can help you to get to know people a bit before you meet in some windswept field, so it can positively help that experience and reduce the 'strangerness' (but not the strangeness) of the others.
As I am new to kitcars, then I guess that I have a lot to learn and I can learn a lot from anyone who has lived with a kitcar for a few years, so I am likely to be more interested in some of the things that you might find trivial. I am looking forward to Stoneleigh and to meeting some of the characters that I have seen on here. I am also looking forward to listening to stories of how to fit a Ford Jag V6 into a Dutton, assuming that it is done by then. And I am hoping that I will enjoy driving my Dutton there.
