DuttonOwners

Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

Trawling through some old posts for a certain technical article on Mr G's site, I came across a post that made me chuckle, so I thought I would share it, the post was dated August 16th 2003.

 Snobbery amongst the proletariat

Its been a long time since I have trawled these, and the DOC message boards, and I thought that I would make my feelings public. Un fortunately the attitudes that prevailed on the DOC site then, have not changed and I feel that there is a real tendency toward a snobbery of sorts. There appears to be an air of superiority assigned to the "committee members" over the "ordinary members". What a shame that a club dedicated to such a small band of enthusiasts has a hierarchy that makes people feel awkward and uncomfortable. I personally felt this elitism at a recent show at Stafford, where another DOC member and myself stood, being ignored for about an hour. The other club to which I affiliate myself, Club Lotus, who you may imagine would be the more snobby of the two, could not be more friendly, one member actually gave me a gallon of petrol gratis, free and for nothing as I had managed to ignore the less than accurate gauge on my Lotus Elite and run out :( I shall not be renewing my subscription to the DOC as I have found absolutely no benefit from membership, however I have met a couple of very nice, well informed individuals through this and the DOC message boards, and have had many hours of entertainment, frustration and heartache from my Dutton. If this post offends any of the DOC membership, or commitee, I'm affraid that I cannot offer an appology, but I hope that it will serve as a warning as to a ground swell of opinion that may well be coming your way.

This cheered me up. Just had the local Tory around pressing hands etc. She asked if there is anything she could do for me, yes, you could find out about the Dutton accounts. She made notes and wandered off, bemused. Today I'm definitely a bloody pigeon Mr. Adams.

Also, just had to explain to some A level kids why I had the flag up today " is England playing?"

I'm concerned they may have tumbled me, they often throw abuse as they walk home from school. 3 lovely school girls, me and my mate often give them a pervi grin, that starts them off. But I think they have been winding me up today :-))
