Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

This is the column, I assumed it was mk2 escort from the stalks and the clocks that are fitted to the car

I bought this boss

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171386734698?_trksid=p2060778.m2749.l2649...

I finally managed to get the right size socket and get the old wheel off today and found the column shaft is loads bigger than the new boss! Old and new for comparison

I put my verniers on the splined section of the column, these are the measurements

In mm

In inches (for you oldies!)

Now either i've been sold the wrong boss or the column is not a mk2 escort one, any ideas?

Either he had a later mk2 with a bigger column or he was 'guessing' at the origins of that hub.

I'll drop the wheel off the Sierra and measure mine although I don't have a digital vernier so it will be approximate (to the nearest 1/2mm)

I do have a spare boss of unknown origin which came on a wheel I bought of ebay to refurb, mountney fitting and too big for my column. I'll see if I can check that somehow too.

Cheers Ade. So I may have a late mk2 column then as the original is bigger?

Sorry, rushing post error... I think the MK1 and Anglia shared the same splines up to a point then went larger.

The late MK1 and MK2 had bigger columns. Oh fiddlesticks I'll just go and measure mine when I have finished what I'm doing.

Did you manage to take a look Ade?

,,CORTINA,,,,

Which cortina?

off the top of my head ,,lol, mk4 ,,

That depends... is the end under the bonnet triangular or splined...

I am fairly certain MK3 onwards had triangular ends on the columns.
