Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

Hello Everyone,

I'm new to the site and new to Dutton ownership, thank you for the warm welcome that I have received so far.

I have just bought a Phaeton S3 which ultimately I want to do a complete body off restoration but at the moment its running with 12 months MOT so I intend to enjoy the summer.

The car I have bought is bright yellow reg number Q857 FLF, if anyone has any history I would appreciate it.

I do have a couple of issues to sort one of which is no headlights, I have side and main beam but no dipped headlight, I suspect it is the light stalk and the other issue is to sort a proper carb linkage as what is on the car seems to just be lashed together, the engine I have been told is a 1600 pinto from a mk 2 Mexico but the V5 says its a 2L engine.

looking forward to some help

Nev

G'day from a fellow newbie!

I also posted my chassis number when I first joined - apparently this is a bad idea as there seems to be a lot of cloning goes on! Maybe edit your post if you can, or delete it and start afresh.

If the engine is from a Mk2 Mexico it will be a 1600 crossflow, not a Pinto. Perhaps your car has had a 2.0 engine at some point in the past but had the 1600 installed and not changed the V5?

Hi Roy

Thanks for the tip I have now removed it, you're right it just hasn't been changed on the V5.

I can't decide at the mo to change the engine for something else or rebuild what I have. Maybe put a 2 Litre back in or how about a K series VVC

The easy route would be to fit a Ford Zetec. It will go onto your gearbox and the RS1800 and 2 litre engines will give a reliable 130bhp as standard. They will need some work to the sump and a few other bits though.

Thanks for your help with this melosman I took the stalk to work and some colleagues stripped it, cleaned it and put it back together but the result is still the same, no fuses have blown and there doesn't seem to be any relays so it must be a wiring issue somewhere, I'll get it sorted eventually and the guys at work can fabricate a bracket for me for the throttle linkage

That sounds like a plan, I'll get them to give me a hand now I know what and how to test it all.

Thank you
