Once you've got so much power that you spin the wheels then that really limits the torque that the axle has to take. I don't think that you can get half of that power (i.e. 300bhp) down in a Dutton at less than 100mph without getting wheel spin. Maybe with huge dragster wheels and sticky rubber but not with road tyres.

Ford's last oil spec for the Pinto was 15/40 15/50 or 20/50 can't remember the actual Castrol part number. Mineral or semi synthetic. You'll be doing we to find pure mineral multigrade that doesn't cost a fortune. Avoid Fully synthetic (you won't find it in those grades anyway) and any oils intended for diesel as they have too much detergent. As modern oils lack zinc and MMA you will see more camshaft/follow wear. I guess its pay your money and take your choice. Personally I have used Castrol magnatec semi synthetic for years without issue

I use Vavoline VR1 in my Sprint engine and Comma motorway in the crossflow. Both on evil bay. One dear one cheap, I did use a classic oil from Halfords but it needed something to thicken it up when really hot. As BV says pay your money. Just think though, it's the blood of the engine.

I was looking at the engines big brother yesterday. If only Triumph had allowed Saab to develop that Stag and Sprint engine. But that was the days when trade unions ruined our engineering works. I hope to keep it going, it's not the fastest lump and its bleeding heavy, but it's fast enough for a Dutton and at this moment reliable. A bit of history? I viewed a frogeye sprite yesterday, mint, still running A series with a blower, I could have took that home, but it wasn't for sale. As my tee shirt says "old guy's rule" :-))

My old man had a healey 3000 with an alloy hardtop made by a local sheet metal guy, we lived on Dartmoor then and you could hear him coming for miles.
