Does anyone know if there is 4-2-1 exhaust on the market that will fit a Phaeton S3 with a pinto engine or will I have to have one made?

almost certainly have one made......standard ones are usually too low.

I have a 'standard' one that I got a couple of years ago on the off-chance that it would fit but it was completely unsuitable for the Melos as the exhaust went back too far as it went down and it would have gone through the pedal box and the drivers footwell. I'd guess that if you can weld then you might do better with one of the DIY kits of parts that are available on ebay.

Phaeton S3 will be the same as melos in this respect James

There arn't any tubular ots. nearest would be the Ford Sierra cast 4-2 if you can find a good one then make a 2-1 downpipe.

Its not that clear in this picture as its partly covered by a heat shield to stop the brake fluid for boiling

the rs2000 cast manifold as well as the sierra cast manifold both exit  closer to the block by at least 1 1/2" when fitted so will help in a dutton if the thought of making  a 4 branch is too depressing.

Thanks for the replies, I'd assumed that one would have to be made as there really isn't much room there at all is there, one of my work mates can weld so that may be an option. The whole system needs to go really as it all looks like a cut and shut escort pipe and I'd prefer it straight through to the back or maybe side exit, what do most people do?

On my Melos I had the exhaust under the car to the back which wasn't very well fitted to the body. The exhaust was very low and it caught on dropped kerbs and ramps.

On my Legerra I have 14" wheels and the exhaust goes under the car to the back but it is very close to the underside of the car and I have no problems with ground clearance at all.

I would go for down the side if I was starting from scratch because that eliminates the exhaust clearance problem. I would guess that with the Pinto exhaust being on the drivers side then it could be a nuisance every time you get in and out.

on my phaeton i barely noticed the exhaust on the drivers side it didnt even have a heat shield as it was never an issue for me.

Engines coming out over winter for a rebuild so gives me plenty of time to decide
