As you know, a Melos can easily handle 100bhp. I don't know what the effective limit is but there are Duttons with some very impressive engines. They should have no difficulty with the 140bhp from a Zetec. And that should get you well below 6 seconds 0-60.

Not arsed about the parts but transferring a vehicle ID is illegal. That was a registered drophead, i know the reg and the origins of the vehicle, I also know where the reg is now, he's in for a shock.

Doubt if it was escort boys as the rear axel is there
more like locust boys !

He states in the listing its going without axle or springs, he only left them on to keep it mobile.

doesnt it say that the axle isnt included , unless i read it wrongly ?

I quite fancy the chassis as a spare, mind you I asked about the one over on merseyside a few weeks back and he was blatantly going to sell the ID for the vehicle .... IF he could trace it, funny that I couldn't seem to find it on the database :-) (it was only a partial serial number)

Ooooops only just read the full add-didn't bother to begin with as with most of them its all bull s### anyway

the thing is every "escort" ends up being zetec powered on 5 link and stripped out interior on 17" X 45 profile tyres oh and a "new" heritage shell with all new brakes....in fact totally unlike any possible car built in the 1970's....but yet they still want historic log books because the "escort" is an old car. they are as much like a 1970's escort as the 6r4 metro was like the A+ powered shopping trolly......

the point about the escort boys is that they often get rebuilt as standard with the rose tinted vision of a nippy reliable car...what they get is a 1970's ford escort...ok....ish.... but slow and not great or very reliable when your entirely honest....so they go looking for "performance upgrades" and all the parts from the various sources are now redundant. they end up with a 2010+ car that looks like a mk 1 escort...ish and they pontificate on how great their original escort is and how it can still blow WRX Scoobies into the weeds with 70's technologies.......... HA HA no stop your killing me.......

The fact is that there's money in Ford parts and owners are perfectly entitled to maximise the money they make when they decide they don't want a car anymore. Personally if I cant sell mine ( I am considering it) it would be tempting to recover as much as possible from the parts

So going by what Dave A is saying, and ive no evidence to disproove it, that the only bit that escort restorers would be interested in, assuming that what they are building are in essence new cars is an historic log book,

crossflow and pintos, unless its for someone wanting an 100per cent authentic car, could have little value, so who benifits when a dutton gets the chop,   i assume that most would prefer to fit a zetec and mt75 box, so what does that leave, ,the propshaft,  and rear axle , suspention parts if modified cant be re used,  in some way, it could be looked on as being maybe a good thing, i know i'm going back on what i said, but lets look at the benifits, classic parts  are availible  that might be other wise .i got my gearbox from an escort breakers, how do i know it wasnt once on another dutton?   then i supposs that in some cases, the recovered dutton parts do get  re used, its just a shame that not all dealers then sell on the dutton chassis and body ,with the reg at least it would help someone to rebuild it at a later date.

Thinking of selling the Leggie Stephen, I need to recover some of the money it owes me.Don't get me wrong I have no intention of breaking it but I can see why people do and I probably would as a last resort. Look at how often the same Legerras have come up for sale in the last six months, almost all for less than I paid. I'm resigned to making a loss but I need to keep it as small as possible. If it goes up it'll be offered first here, then elsewhere then other options will be considered, then if it gets broken someone will complain. That's what the pattern seems to be with other owners clubs

Bear in mind that I bought mine with the intention of using the chassis under a 30s Morris body and it becomes even more tempting to part it out if I cant sell it whole.
