I'm not sure that I follow you. There is one red 'frogeye' in St Austell that was bought and then almost immediately put back on the market (and is still for sale). That is a 1300. But apart from that I don't think there have been any that I saw that didn't sell.

I expect that you are right and you will make a loss when you come to sell it, especially when you add in what else you have spent, but I don't think it should be bad - most cars cost thousands in depreciation or, if they are old, they cost quite a bit in repairs. Perhaps you should just sell the hardtop, if you can find anyone who wants one.

The red one is a good example James, that's been for sale since before I bought mine and at least two others have been on Ebay more than once in that time. The hardtop is on the car for the first time in months while I repair the soft top and its leaking like a sieve, cant think of anyone who would want one

The red one is hopelessly over priced - it's a 1300! The current owner paid way over the odds for it and is now trying to get all of his money back by reselling it. Of course, he could sell the engine to one of those Escort lovers and put a decent engine in instead and probably have some change left over.

All owners clubs will be biased, they're all keen to see examples of their particular marque kept running.

I know of someone up in Cumbria who is keen to get hold of a leggie, he wanted his old one back but we can't trace it. If you do decide to call it a day I'll put you in touch. At least you know your's would make the journey up there under it's own steam rather than on a trailer :-)

I know that running my legerra for 7 years has been a whole world cheaper than running a new car or even a 'decent' second hand one, just the fact that I don't have to take it to a garage to be serviced has more than paid its way over the years. Add to that the fun factor of the runs out and the friendships made and the whole experience of running a Dutton becomes priceless. You have a good condition, running example of one of the best looking cars ever made by TWD. Admittedly, I am extremely biased :-)

On a good day I like it a lot Adrian, on a cold wet day it understeers worse than an ocean liner, is a pain to drive and I'm not so sure. That said I'd now be happy to get in it and drive it anywhere. if I do decide to sell it'll be offered here first

I don't think I've ever had understeer in mine, wet, dry or snow. I know what you mean about the hard top though, mine is on the 'spare' car which is tarped over, I use the ragtop on the green one in all weathers as it provides a better seal until the wind drives the rain horizontally under the side.

I don't recall ever getting understeer in mine, tail out around roundabouts - yes, plenty! But I only do that in the dry.

It is the steamed up windscreen and the hood that comes un-poppered that irritate me.

I get noticeable slow corner understeer in the dry and catastrophic understeer in the wet, giving it a bootfull usually just pushes the nose further wide or occasionally it just snaps around on you and you have to be really quick to catch it. Didn't on Xmas day, luckily it just 180'd without hitting anything.

It may be a set up thing or it may just be old tyres but I'm not spending any more money on it til it's fate is decided.

It might be worthwhile seeing if anyone is close enough to lend you a set of fronts to try out just to prove the fault. At least if you know its tyres not geometry its easier to fix.

Mines just shite:-))

I have my own tracking gauges so I can check that. The tyres didn't seem to upset the Capri handling when the wheels were on that though they are still the prime suspect.

What size are they? see Wayne's tyre size discussion as we've posted a load of stuff there about tyre sizes.

I'd vote tyres if they are over a 185, i've never tried 205's on the front of mine as they would foul the arches or the chassis on lock but I know its been done.

This is the third Sierra in six months to have been destroyed by people reclaiming escort parts and then listing the shells as having no ID. I know for a fact that one of those had an ID as I have a photo of it. The other two have, as far as I know, already been scrapped as they haven't re-surfaced anywhere since. 1 drophead, 1 pickup and 1 estate.

The drophead in question used to belong to a club member and was road legal but at some point the ID has ended up on something else to avoid the hassle of SVA/IVA. I'm waiting for more info from the guy that currently owns the shell so I can dig deeper.
