Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

A few duttons I have came with a plate between the chassis and arb bush and some haven't. I have put the plate in and it compresses the bush a lot more now and turning is more positive.
You can see how one of the brackets holes have elongated without the plate fitted although it was done up tight.

Ford Sierra jig was 1" out of square, acceptable tolerance in Ford eyes. I spent weeks getting a rally Xr4x4 within tolerance !

If Ford found it 'acceptable' then I doubt Tim would have argued the point much :)

Doh ??  I'll have to check on that one.

What size is your ARB Steve? have you got 22mm bushes on a 20mm ARB?

Comment by Adrian Southgate on October 20, 2015 at 16:12

I didn't know it would BV.

The current setup has the geometrey askew, the wheelbase is 1/2 inch shorter on the nearside, the white one was the same and so is the black one so it's not just my green one thats affected.

Fitting tension bars to adjust the forward and backward motion or the TCA  in place of an ARB thats currently pushing it out of line, how could it possibly be worse?

2 and a bit years I've been mumbling about this strange handling never thought that a bit of flat could make that much difference, because it has. Still, it's done now, ready for "Pinto Power" I hope :-))

As they came they didnt have this plate and it allows the bush and arm to move around affecting the directional stability of the car - The plate properly locates the arm and bush and as you have found makes it steer better.

Ade - why do you want to make your leggie handle worse?

I put a bar between chassis and arb and it would slide, it doesn't now, but I wonder if I have the wrong floflex bushes they do appear to be oversized and crush and distort. I have been looking at this all day. Thanks Nick, now I've got to make the time up elsewhere. It is a definite improvement, I have driven it again and it is more positive, not bad for a Sierra. :-))

The legerra will be getting adjustable tension bars to replace the ARB (another job i've been putting off) I'm happy with the ARB on the Sierra however I will see if those plates will do me any favours later.I have a feeling mine are quite a snug fit as is.
