As a result of my Ranger getting vandalised/attempted theft, I got talking to a few neighbours. In particular there is a foreign chap who lives in the house opposite my garage. When I told him about my plight he offered me his garage to store a car and/or some stuff in. So now my V6 Dutton is in a nice dry garage until I get my own new garage built. I offered to pay him rent but he wouldn't accept it. Damn nice these Hungarians. I shall have to find out what they like for Christmas.

So after Mr Plod went off with my plastic bits, I disassembled the steering column and hammered and bent the torn bracket into shape. I didn't actually know what it was supposed to look like and the metal was very twisted but I slowly managed to get it looking like that was how it was meant to be. I have now refitted it and it needs a little bending to get the holes to line up. (it was a bit harder than it all sounds and some of it was very tricky with only one pair of hands). However, it is a pity that it didn't take a little longer then I'd have missed X-Factor entirely. Maybe I'll take the dog for a walk for some peace.

Raining here - it's a Bristol thing, every day with a "y" in its name, it seems.

The Police Scientific Investigation officer has been and taken my broken steering column surround, he reckoned that it had good prints where the baddie had grabbed around the edge to yank it off. He reckons that most thefts are done by known car thieves, so he's optimistic. Clunk, click, another one banged up!

Okay, I know that is unlikely.
