I've disconnected the front-to-rear brake pipe that goes through the hydraulic handbrake and put a reservoir on instead. This will allow the handbrake and footbrake to be used independently of each other. The pipe will stay in place for the day we go hillclimbing or decide to get an MoT.

i believe a hydraulic hand brake is illegal as it has to be of a mechanical design able to work if the hydraulic system fails.......it also would fail the MOT as the rear brakes must work with the foot pedal.
it is however not illegal to buy them, they are perfectly legal for competition use.

Nope, the footbrake does the fronts, the hydraulic handbrake does the rears. Not sure if you've ever driven a car with a hydraulic handbrake but whatever you use first, locks out the other. For example, if you hit the foot brake, you won;t be able to pull up the handbrake lever. Likewise, if you pull the lever up, the footbrake is near solid. With the system split like this I can stand the car on it's nose with the footbrake, unload the rear end and tweak the handbrake to get the rear sliding.

Do the rear brakes still work with the foot pedal or are they only operated by the handbrake?
