It was wrapped to prevent the exhaust gas burning through the battery cable should it crack again, very difficult to get an even wrap on a pinto manifold. The fact that it broke in two and I was still driving it is testament to that heat wrap doing what it was put there to do.

The new manifold will not be wrapped as it's completely the wrong shape for it.

I will get the ignition checked as it is a little sluggish on acceleration. Cheers Vern.

I noticed on one of your pic's the manifold was partially heat wrapped. An all over even heat wrap is preferable to prevent  different rates of expansion. Better to leave the manifold unwrapped and protect the other things from the heat. Also check your ign isn't too far retarded as that adds extra heat to the exhaust.

I had it 'professionally' welded and it warped the manifold. I did offer a spare cylinder hear to bolt it down to but that was dismissed as unneccassary, I hate being right all the time...

Trapping more heat in it probably didn't help, but having that bandage rounnd it.

Oh... that was the original plan, fit a sierra 4-2...

It was destined for the Dutton Sierra but now you mention them cracking I'm not sure.

I can't run to a custom 4 branch, it would triple the value of the car :-)

It will have to do for now as its all ready to go in.

All cast manifolds are getting hard to come by. The Ford Sierra 4-2 ones are even worse for cracking.

This is a 71 casting from the ford part number. The replacement is an 84 casting and its a better shape for gas flow,  as well as being exactly the same outlet position so its a good swap if yours is starting to crack. 84-HF-9430-AA is the part number in case anyone needs one.
