New engine hoist, new engine stand, new engine cradle. I love it when I buy myself Christmas presents - they're the best! An awfully nice chap, Chris Muir, brought them over on his way home tonight, same day delivery! He has a store on ebay "cmfab" but he has a car addiction too, we chatted for ages, hope his dinner wasn't burnt.

I have a smallish Clarke crane from machine mart which will (has) supported the whole Legerra minus the body while it was being built, been loaned out a few times, used for pulling tree stumps in the garden and obviously had the engines out of my two runners on many occasions. Probably the best £149 i've spent on one tool ever.
i kind of thought that James :-).......
i looked at the 2 ton crane when i went to CJ Auto's but thought it too bulky to store easily for me. i also didn't think the extra cost would be justified by the limited use that an engine crane would get as a amateur car builder. I can see how it would be tempting to get though.
The reason that I chose a 2 ton one was because it has a greater reach, rather than because of its greater lifting power. It is rated at 500Kg at its full length but that is probably with a big safety margin, so it can probably lift a whole Dutton.
My crane packs away fairly small, but the engine stands are still quite bulky, space is the issue for me even though i have a double garage the car barely fits.
I suspect that the 2 ton cranes might be a little over engineered for the average Dutton engine ;-) for the average Dutton car come to that.......
I have just gone out and measured it. There is quite a bit of play in the pins but I reckon that it is only 36" wide across the legs, whereas I have about 46" between the wheels of the Legerra. Maybe the Chinese got their copying wrong when they made mine.
