Had a problem with the valve compressor. Just giving it a final squeeze with my body weight behind it and then BANG. The compressor slipped, spring and retainer shot off across the garage. The spring landed next to me, but the reatiner is somewhere in my scrap / spare metal heap. So just used a reatiner from a spare newer D port essex head, I have very early Oval port Essex heads. So they are a bit thrown together now until I find the correct retainer, then I will clean up the NOS springs. Does anybody know Essex engines? Can I get away with using this later retainer?
