this weekend if it is dry i am going to see if i can get a Fiesta mk3/4/5 fuel tank with fuel pump for the Legerra.

However what do you lads use....especially if you have recently fitted a fuel tank.

I have the fiesta fuel tank........its too wide for the Legerra.......approx. 29" X 18" and around 6-8" deep. it should however fit fine on the S3/4 chassis and Melos i would think.

It looks like cleaning and modifying my existing tank is my only option..........

been very tempted to make my own tank.....again......even by using folded steel sheet and seam welding.....but it will take ages to seam weld a tank and i cannot be arsed with it all again, so i am looking for a donor fit.

spent some time visiting scrapyards today and yesterday.........and they all drill holes in fuel tanks. some wouldn't even sell me a tank with a hole in it to be repaired.

the Fiesta tanks look ideal and a replacement fuel pumps/sender units are £10 from the scrappers...so i just need to find a tank now.

also i looked at some other cars in the scrappers and another good option is the Daewoo Matiz fuel tank, they are about 35L capacity (also the Hyundai ATOZ)

I had my tank made up by local sheet metal company about £50 11 years ago, it was designed to fit into the recess in the boot floor, or where it used to be as I cut the bottom off the tub so the tank fits flush to the floor. Started life as 2 x 2mm flat sheets, then folded into "U" shapes which slide together, this gives a very strong weld area. It's a bit heavy, but does balance the car nicely when full with around 50 ltrs of petrol.

Making a tank is ok.....I did that for my phaeton by welding two reliant robin tanks end to end. Sciento tank is small at about 30l or so I would want 40l for my 2.0l car

of course you could make your own and maybe there could be some advantages such as ideal size/shape and in build baffles, but it would be much less effort/ likley cheaper to buy a ready made one.

Incidentally I noticed you can get fiesta/puma tanks also in plastic

Stupid question maybe here but why cant u, me or anyone make their own. Aren’t all tanks in principle the same. Two domes welded together with some inlets and out lets. The tank in the race car is simply 6 aluminium plates welded togethee with filler on top, flow, return and overflow/breather! I’m sure I’m being dumb and you smarter chappies will tell me.

I was thinking about possibly using one from a Seicento

I welded some brackets onto the chassis to suit. The tank is under the boot floor, or rather I cut away the floor to suit and I will make a new floor above the tank.

I have used a Ford Puma tank, which I believe is exactly the same as the Fiesta one.
