I'm going to be a grumpy old man:

1.5l two stroke should be similar to a 3l four stroke, except for weight and size. It has a turbo too doesn't it? So the figures aren't that impressive compared to a 3l diesel.

I'm afraid that I found the article rather irritating - it sort of said "they made it better by making it better" but they didn't explain any of the changes or how they made the difference. They mention "key innovations" but don't tell us what. I find such things rather patronising. It might be a really interesting breakthrough or it could just be marketing hype, we cannot tell from the dumbed down article.

Opposed piston two strokes have been done before so what have they done that makes theirs different? Are the pistons out of phase? Do they both move the same amount? How are the ports arranged? With those huge conrods, how fast can it rev? The article doesn't even say if it is spark ignition or not. Is the key element that it has direct injection, maybe? Also with opposed pistons then why use the boxer arrangement instead of a more compact inline engine?

They shouldn't be allowed to tantalise us like that. It just isn't fair.
