Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

I have heard of 2 or 3 phaeton's up for grabs. They are in the Silverstone area and have 1600 Xflow engines....
One has been a trials car and was a championship winning trials car a few years ago appearing on BBC top gear.
The guy is looking to sell them to DOC owners for preservation but may break them if no interest. ....

Adrian unless I'm mistaken wasn't the Vic check scheme cancelled the other week ?
Guy had LOTS of messages/requests Daryl don't think he could keep track of who,s who
I had some stuff an a lot more bits went to a Melos owner who is changing his running gear to mx5
Both him and I phoned the guy an had a more human interaction than just messages over the internet and that seemed to suite him.
Very nice guy an the seats for example he had other messages offering more an the old "i,ll be there tomorrow" but due to the fact we had a chat he stuck with me
Same with the Melos owner

Petrol disc cutters?? big boys toys :-)))

James, I once "assisted" the demolition of a Lotus Espirit with a petrol disc cutter. Less then one hour later the guy had the turbo, the engine and gearbox on his trailer. The rest went for a bonfire !

I don't think I can read anymore of this thread, now that it has come to Melos killing. Chopped up just because it was easier to get the engine out? Sounds like a psychopath!

Some people blatantly encourage it despite the illegality of the practice. Clamping down by the DVLA would put all our cars on the 'at risk' register and do you really want to have to go through a VIC with every vehicle?

so where did the black Sierra end up ?? I suppose as it had never been registered its of no interest. Wonder what it take to get it through IVA ?? I have noticed at least a dozen things on mine that would prevent it, but it was not built with that in mind. There is another kit site that actively says about buying cheap kit cars (Dutton's were mentioned) and using the i.d.

V5C should be returned to the DVLA so the vehicle can be listed as scrapped (what a waste) chucking it on the fire means nothing as with the right information you can apply for a new one.

This is exactly what Martin was talking about and yes, i know the car was there for anyone to buy and it just happened to be someone who had no interest in the actual car just the parts. We can't save them all 'just in case' people want to buy them in the future, It's just not viable. Doesn't stop me getting angry about it and I know it angers other people too.

Escorts were plentiful back then and 'unloved', now the situation is reversed, such is life. Only problem being that Duttons are not as plentiful as the escorts used to be and it happens so frequently that they are becoming rarer. None of us on here are interested in how much we can get for a rare car (or shouldn't be) it should be about preserving and improving whats left surely. Isn't that what enthusiasts do?

Been chatting to the guy for quite a while an told him how things are with the v5,s
He told me about all his funny messages he has had about it an last sun morning after the chassis remains went on a trailer to the tip v5 went on the fire

Not trying to create an argument but if someone contacts a committee member an would like the car to hopefully keep in the DOC you put the add on the official club site as well not just this one !
Martin as much as people want to go on about it the thing is you cant go against market forces or what people want or need at the time
Last weekend I was in Durham picking up seats for my s3. They came from a nice Melos that was on gumtree a while back the guy who bought it wanted the axel an engine and to get the engine out he cut the front off the car and pulled it out !
Sad end for a nice car but it was there for anyone to buy ! Same as all the cars the ford breakers have got its just the way it is
Irony is maybe 5/6 thousand escorts were cut up to make Duttons
