Petrol disc cutters?? big boys toys :-)))
James, I once "assisted" the demolition of a Lotus Espirit with a petrol disc cutter. Less then one hour later the guy had the turbo, the engine and gearbox on his trailer. The rest went for a bonfire !
I don't think I can read anymore of this thread, now that it has come to Melos killing. Chopped up just because it was easier to get the engine out? Sounds like a psychopath!
Some people blatantly encourage it despite the illegality of the practice. Clamping down by the DVLA would put all our cars on the 'at risk' register and do you really want to have to go through a VIC with every vehicle?
so where did the black Sierra end up ?? I suppose as it had never been registered its of no interest. Wonder what it take to get it through IVA ?? I have noticed at least a dozen things on mine that would prevent it, but it was not built with that in mind. There is another kit site that actively says about buying cheap kit cars (Dutton's were mentioned) and using the i.d.
V5C should be returned to the DVLA so the vehicle can be listed as scrapped (what a waste) chucking it on the fire means nothing as with the right information you can apply for a new one.
This is exactly what Martin was talking about and yes, i know the car was there for anyone to buy and it just happened to be someone who had no interest in the actual car just the parts. We can't save them all 'just in case' people want to buy them in the future, It's just not viable. Doesn't stop me getting angry about it and I know it angers other people too.
Escorts were plentiful back then and 'unloved', now the situation is reversed, such is life. Only problem being that Duttons are not as plentiful as the escorts used to be and it happens so frequently that they are becoming rarer. None of us on here are interested in how much we can get for a rare car (or shouldn't be) it should be about preserving and improving whats left surely. Isn't that what enthusiasts do?
