Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

IMAG0299

So, collected last weekend and the first chance I get to go over it we have snow / hail / rain and gales... lovely if your a penguin I guess...

Q835XSC purchased from the factory in 1988, completed in 1990, stored for the winter in 1991 and there it sat for 22 years, possibly one of the saddest Legerras I have ever seen apart from my black one.

It was rough, body panels off, windscreen missing and a sorry case of 4 wheel drum brakes...

Today it got a wash, nothing special just caravan cleaner and a sponge but an improvement on fungus and moss...

Hell of a job on here lads, starting with a body off chassis check, bushes and bolts and some refurb bits fresh from the sand blasting cabinet.

I will be posting more detail on Mr G's but major updates will be copied onto here too.

Might have acquired a set of these... 13x7 with a 7mm offset Compomotive MS rims date back to the late 80's early 90's and these do need a little work but just the edges really. Currently fitted with 185x60's, two of which need replacing, they look tiny even on the white one. I might put them on the green one, might use them on the white one, not made my mind up yet.

Anyroad, here's the photos.

Seats arrived yesterday, need a refurb but can't complain for £12.50 from Eddie on Hayling Island.Bit firmer than the ones in my legerra, thicker padding on the side bits where your hips go so may not suit people with large backsides. Wheels recovered from Mr Kerry will be de-tyred during the week and will need at least 24mm spacing on the front as they are 7J 15'swith FWD offset. Might see if there are a set on ebay to match, had these on my legerra a few years ago so know they look ok under one.

These rims. 7 spoke staggered offset 100+ but no idea if they have a name or not..

Minor update.

Refurb one steering column, new upper bearing alone should have cost £30 luckily I had a spare.

Probably needs a new lower bush although its a snug fit on the steering shaft and in the tube so maybe ok.

I do need one of those little black plastic bits that goes behind the wheel and cancels the indicators if anyone has a spare, also a Mk2 boss to take a mountney wheel as mine appears to be mk1 or Anglia as its got smaller splines, any type considered, can pay cash or swap parts ... wot ya got? (and i know that a new one is £28 from Peter Lloyd Rallying on ebay but this is a budget build so would rather recycle an unloved one.

I also need a tin of elbow grease as mine is empty

Sorting the front of the green one so I can steal the hubs, discs, pipes and calipers as a unit as I know they work ok. Diff sourced, no idea what the ratio is though, just haven't worked it out.

Found a source for backplates for mk2 discs which is good, price is £14.95 per side which is not so good.

10p. O ring does the job, just make sure it can take the fluid. Bearing supply shops have all sizes.

didn't see you were up at 0430 as well there Adrian........the problem with exchange is the need for calipers in the first place.......I dont got any at all. :-(

Brakes international could be cheaper but are on an exchange basis so you'd have to ship them the old ones.

I am looking for M16 calipers as well, but i might go for new ones from rally design at £48 each.

@ Martin - Discs and yes please...

@ Daryl - Needs TLC and a big bucket of parts, luckily I have both including alloys with legal tyres.

@ Dave & Steve - Cheers boys, it was registered so had to be done. way too good to scrap but looks are deceiving and it needs a body off rebuild.

Engine has been secured, also gearbox (Dave T), prop (spares box) Diff (I have a choice) Discs (spares box) Steering column (spares box) Rack (spares box) etc etc...

Carpets will be black and taken from my green leggie as its getting new coffee coloured ones. Not sure about seats or instruments yet, still got another Capri 6 clock unit in the spares box but thats a spare for mine.

Heater box, Radiator and all plumbing is also from the spares box and will be fitted as these do steam up when the roof is on.

One thing I will need is the front support bar for the soft top, come to think of it I also need a soft top although my old black one is still on my legerra and that will be replaced this year too.

I'll work out the other parts as I go through it.
