So, MOT sorted by the skin of its teeth, loads to do before tomorrow morning, panic has set it due to a little mishap with the pedal box...
How many of you fitted metal spreader plates between the pedal box and the bulkhead? Here is something for those of you with pinto engines to think about.
I didn't see this coming 8 years ago when I re built it... The holes are supposed to be there... the crack around the edge is not.
Seems the proximity to the manifold has weakened the fibreglass of the tub a little
Well a lot actually :)
A metal spreader plate on the inside would have eased the load on the area and this may not have been quite so severe. This is going to be a fun evening..

I bought a quick shift from Matt Lewis Racing for £44.95 free post, fitted it tonight as I'm off to the my Dad down in Kent tomorrow. Reckon its shorter than I thought but still could do with the top 2 inches amputating. Anyway... the whole reason for doing this was this infernal rattle at 3000 RPM or thereabouts, proper driving me bonkers it was... turns out not to be the gearstick :( I still haven't tracked it down but it does sound very 'gearboxy' which can't be good. I'll do fluids checks and see if its dry but I doubt it as its never lost a drop in 46000 miles and it's not leaving puddles or drips (more than can be said for the Sierra) I guess a 200 mile run over the weekend will see if its 'broken' anything, must remember to take my AA card...
Mine is slightly tweaked so would be interesting to see how much difference it made over stock with say the standard 32/36 DGV on it. I will have time to fiddle with it at some point but getting the white one sorted is first on the agenda now., thatll mean another attempt to clear the garage out then, well at least remove enough crap to walk round it...
I can't find the graph but found the figures. Stock pinto with 38dgas at Northampton Motorsport produced 106.5bhp @ the fly (81.4bhp at the wheels) and 119.7 lb/ft of torque
The more you write, the more I go off the idea of using this DGAS. I don't need a mental screamer race engine, it very rarely gets over 3500 RPM to be honest The 32/36 DGV with modifications seems like a more sensible prospect to me. Might try the DGAS as is just to see what happens but will work on the DGV as well.
Thanks for all the words of wisdom Guys, between you and the capri / turbosport forums. sense has prevailed.
I also have 1 and a half 38 DGAS carbs.....one brand new...well 30 years old but unused.
Nick chick uses a single side draught and his pinto runs very well.....I also have run a 38 DGAS with bored out chokes and with the base butterfly's filed thinner with the cold start choke flaps removed on my pinto. it gave slightly better midrange and no obvious benefit to top end it did however use more fuel.
