So, MOT sorted by the skin of its teeth, loads to do before tomorrow morning, panic has set it due to a little mishap with the pedal box...
How many of you fitted metal spreader plates between the pedal box and the bulkhead? Here is something for those of you with pinto engines to think about.
I didn't see this coming 8 years ago when I re built it... The holes are supposed to be there... the crack around the edge is not.
Seems the proximity to the manifold has weakened the fibreglass of the tub a little
Well a lot actually :)
A metal spreader plate on the inside would have eased the load on the area and this may not have been quite so severe. This is going to be a fun evening..

oops... I bought a LH thread rose joint, oh well I'll use it on the tension bars I guess.

Question - Escort mk2 steering rack, is it supposed to be two normal threads or one left and one right handed?

I might have a set of classic capri struts in the lock up complete with discs however they will be VERY rusty by now as were in rough nick when I put them in about four years ago :) They were spares from when I converted my old 105E back in 1998...

Several different ones,bigger ones are used if you do the old school classic an fit princess four pots they are about 260mm an still fit !!!

Hi Adrian just back in Norfolk for tonight so got a bit of interweb access
Where did you get your spacer kit and discs from ???
Standard disc is 12mm/247 and the correct vented disc should be20/247 for a type 16 caliper
On a standard car you have 16/18mm clearance between the disc an rod end so you should have loads of clearance
Done the conversion several times with no problems.
Ignore some of what has been said on here,works on all type 16,s,both the early imperial versions and the later m
Doesn't matter what the strutt is either !
Phone rally design or David Lloyd rallying both REALLY know their stuff
an sure they can sort the problem pretty quick
My money is on the discs being the wrong size or offset ?

Been experimenting with those rod ends as the new bolts arrived. Its definitely going to need a surgically altered taper adapter inside the steering arm, that's tomorrow nights project sorted then.

And here is one of the refurbed shock back on the car,
not bolted on at the top so I can wiggle the suspension around while fitting the track rod ends.
You can see the top hat spacers on the left and what happens to the bolt angle if the lower one is removed on the right.
