having problems with my speedo again. dugh. bought a new cable fitted it. had wrong sized screw cap on the back. so made a clip to hold it in. it worked for a couple of miles then died. so to cut a long story short. the cable that snapped had a bigger square drive on the end. so the new one is just spinning in the back of the clock. the speedo is a icknield. so what can i do now. i thought all speedo cables had the same sized square drive.....argh :-(

I would try making a square sleeve of metal out of thin sheet. Something like the lid of a sardine tin should be thin enough to cut with scissors.

in fact ill try the solder first. nothing to lose if im going to get a new cable made. thanks chaps :-)

no more money squeek . ill give them a ring mondy. i need to get it sorted no fun when you get a copper behind you and you have no speedo :-)))))

iv no acess to brazing rods ect.

Hmmm maybe a small amount of braze would be more reliable on steel. Whatever you use it will have to be spotless.

about a mill or so ade. iv never had so much trouble from such i so called easy job. can you solder steel..? and thanks

How much bigger is the square, microns or millimetres? Could you add material to the driving end with solder then file it square again?
