Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

Good news, I got a new starter and put in in. What a pain. It was so tight behind the  Hunter Hillman engine. It works great! The car idles fine but the bad new is the car is missing and backfiring real bad when on the road. So more work to be done . Do you think it could be the points which are original. At least 10 years old. If it is the points what should be the gap on them? Otherwise is it the timing.? I've never had to adjust it and have no idea why It would have changed. Thanks for all the input on my problems guys!

Air leak......

check you haven't knocked a pipe off the inlet manifold.

but yes check the points. about 0.5mm timing i would guess be about 6 degrees before TDC

its more likely to be a carbon cored high tension lead breaking down under laod,,
