Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

when i get round to taking my car to bits this year (now the Quantum is on the road) I have been wondering what to do about the front end of the car, especially as the headlights are knackered and need replacing. To be honest i have seen very few cycle guard modifications that look good on Phaetons because of the shape and height of the bonnet and nose cone.

But i am thinking of cutting out the headlight pods completely and making the mud guard look as if they were never there. and buying some HID projector lamps and making some holders, either both sides of the nose cone or inside the grille area, hidden. OR making some eye shaped pods to sit on the mudguards for the smaller lamps, what do you lot think?

If it is of any use I have a PDF copy of the IVA manual.
Surely the car only has to conform to the regulations set at the year of manufacture of the donor vehicle
As I understand it, a vehicle need only conform to c+u regs for year of manufacture unless it is being presented for IVA when it must confirm with current regs.

Just a thought on legal matters with headlamps.  Is it legal run with the old French yellow headlight bulbs in the UK?  I am having thoughts of a black Phaeton with yellow headlight bulbs (cool???).  A few years ago I ran Citroen Mehari on which I painted yellow converter paint and never got any hassle, but that was a goo few years ago.  Dave

as far as i know it is ok for lights to be yellow, the only stipulation is that they should be of equal brightness.

Could you be the first to put pop-up headlamps on a  Phaeton perhaps?

I have actually been looking into doing exactly that. Although comming out of the side of the nose cone will likely be the option, when I decide what I am doing and if it will be to this car or the spare one.....when I get it.

Always a thought some of the bike headlights are nicely laid backwards and would certainly give a different look.

The problem is that the lights I am looking at cost about £160+ a pair and I am way to tight (and skint) to pay that for them.

Have you seen these ones ?, dont look a bad price really :)

Yeah good point Daryl about the bike lights, however there would 2 which should help a little.

I saw the pop ups going in the space where the current frog eyes live to give the clean look rather than in the nose-cone / rad air flow.

Mental note to myself, must spend less time dreaing and more time welding or mine will never get done! :-)
