Gave the Phaeton a bit of a shake down after the winter lay up last night, she has been a pig to start or keep running when cold, bad tick over and a massive flat spot on pressing the loud pedal.
I had given the engine and carb visual once over and found nothing, so thought it maybe the jets in the carb gummed up from my experiment from last year where I tried to get it to run on diesel (earlier blog) This afternoon decided to take the carb off and clean, but found that one of the carb to manifold studs loose, carb off to find the the stud had striped the top half of the threads from the manifold. The threads where ok at the very bottom, this called for Fixsal super glue, abit on the threads screwed back in within 2 minutes it was going nowhere. Carb back on, nuts tightened up, press the starter button, starts first time no choke. Result!!!
Ticks over sweet, no flat spot, come on Wales bring on those country roads.

Fixsal is not a bodge, Have you not seen this stuff on shopping channel and at the kit car shows? this stuff is not the same as super glue it is flexible on rubber, or you can glue a nut to a surface, let it cure then bolt an engine to it. Buy it, try it, you could have glued you headlamps on with it Dave. The guy that sells it will be at Stoneleigh, watch his demo.
