Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

Have I joined four years too late?

not much current stuff! I can’t complain, my little Dutton has been in hibernation for 4years, (in bits due to an argument with a power line pole!!!) all better now.

accident was precipitated by new 15” tyres over inflated by the garage (36psi) I never really thought about the very small grip footprint that would have, and the disastrous effect on my ability to scoot round corners with impunity. Learned my lesson. Tyres now a grippy 16psi.

By the way what pressures do you all find ideal?

Many thanks for confirmation, don’t want any more unwanted excursions into the undergrowth!

I find that 15 to 18psi was ideal for my Legerra on its track day tyres - they have stronger sidewalls and don't need as much air pressure, apparently. I used 20psi on my road tyres until the local council put in new speed bumps and I found that my sump was just rubbing them. It was a choice of lose weight or increase the tyre pressures ... so I upped them to 25psi. My Legerra is a fair bit heavier than your Melos.

I too had an unfortunate incident due in part to tyre pressures. Mine was coming off at Castle Combe into the barrier. That was because I had forgotten to lower the tyre pressures again after pumping them up to clear the speed bumps that the council put in "for our safety". [Actually they fitted the speed bumps to stop people using the roads in my estate after they closed a nearby dual carriageway so they could sell the land to house developers].
