I think thats a bit harsh Mr Taylor ! Its good to get any sort of communication from the club, and at least we now have an official idea, of what is going on. Please keep us informed Dave.
I find this all rather bemusing in all honesty, As Mike says, periodically the same topic rears its head, and is picked to bits with out ever having any sort of conclusion, and I’m just as guilty as the next person. But its only ever picked to bits by the few of us that want to interact with each other, and very very rarely by a few others that may decide to speak up on the topic.
Perhaps we all expect too much from the DOC, the primary reason I joined was to benefit from a club insurance discount, and the advice of like minded people. Unfortunately, the truth of the matter is that we do not need to be a member of the DOC to be able to interact with other Dutton owners, due to the very existence of web sites like this and others.
So, why bother trying to wring more out of the DOC than we already get. If the membership fee we pay annually, gives us an insurance saving along with the fact that we also have the back up of the club should any problems arise with institutions like DVLA/VOSA, these two alone are worth the fee of £12.00, then what else do we require?
Providing we get an accurate account of how and why the remainder of our membership money is spent, then why not let the club run quietly in the back ground, as I presume that the majority of the 300+ members do that I have never met or spoken to.
Every thing else can and is, already being done from this site (Ning) and Mr G’s…… Rebuild Diary’s, Technical issues, Help and Reference, Excellent Banter, Local runs and Meets,
If the 300+ members are quite happy to fund Dutton Torque, and someone is prepared to put it together, then, as and when it arrives it is a bonus.
Out of interest, I would like to know how many of you on here are not members of DOC and why.
I have to agree Steve, it is a thankless task, unfortunatly issues such as the bank account can only be dealt with by the people who are on the banks list,
the database problem , would i guess need further looking at by whoever takes over from Ade, but can i say, we all owe him a lot for sticking with it this far
Ade has my full support.....and always has. its a royal pain sometimes sorting problems for folks who dont appreciate what your having to do to get any thing done.
Enough of this.
I think you should allow me the opportunity of announcing my own retirement should I wish to do so on a public forum.
I also believe it to be bad form to try and arrange a replacement of any description whilst I am still working on an issue which affects the whole club in such a critical manner. Reporting back the contents of a telephone conversation between two committee members without so much as a word to the other party involved isn't exactly good manners either.
At no point in the last few months have I been on here griping about any of the other members of the committee not fulfilling their required roles in the process, nor have I been involved in any of the arguments that have arisen over issues relating to the workings of the club other than to try and explain what has happened and why. The internal communications amongst the committee have been appalling with club members questions going unanswered for months, in one instance I think its been nearly a year and the question still remains unanswered to this day as the figures published in the magazine are incorrect.
This is a club run on a voluntary basis for its members by a selected group of individuals who all give up time to make the club work FOR THE MEMBERS. There are problems which need resolving and work is in progress to do just that, I'm not going to spend the rest of my night listing them here just to provoke even more argument.
If you want this club to continue to exist then please stop the arguments and lets just get on with our respective jobs, get the problems resolved and at the AGM we can all accept the pats on the back for a job well done when we hand in our respective reports.
I don't want to spend time on here or any other forum, justifying my position on the committee, time which could have been better spent working out the issues with the new systems, lifes too bloody short, as I have been reminded tonight by the loss of a very close friend. There have been times this year when I did want to throw the towel in and resign, to walk away from the issue and wash my hands of it for good, times when the stress levels at work have been too high for me to even contemplate working on anything other than keeping my job and my sanity intact. I have admitted to anyone who showed even the slightest interest that things have been rough these last six months. I have had numerous offers of help from other club and committee members to assist but to be perfectly honest none that I am aware of has access to the IT backup that I do nor the laptops, printers and other equipment needed to do the job. We would have been back to the 'register and index card system' which is not a step forward for the club at all
The club was formed to provide help, support and advice to members, to provide information and common resources to share and to provide a common ground for social interaction. Lets keep it that way and not degenerate into political shenanigans and power struggles, like I stated before, lifes too bloody short.
Adrian.
