We have loads of Sierra's, Melos's and Phaetons, quite a few Legerra's and even a few B's and Malaga's on here. What I want to know is, where are all the others, the Beneto's, Rico's?
I know both Nick and Mark have Beneto's but they are the only two I have ever seen. Who's hiding the others?

but couldn't that be said of all of us? we buy a thrown together collection of plastic and car parts then spend the next years trying to make something out of it that in the end financially doesnt addd up, and then once its there, its no use for taking the wife shopping in, no boot space its non practical, noisy, you get wet ,when it rains and you cant get the hood up why do we do it?
Hi Adrian,
I'll try to get a list of Jürgen, who has also created a database? But will take some time .....
Thanks Tom
No rush as I have been collecting data for over two years now and our database has increased in size quite a lot since I started.
Any info they are prepared to provide would be appreciated.
Hi Adrian,
that sounds interesting. Register me with you ...
When you think just how many have already been lost, add onto that the ones that will never go back on the road because of the cost of making any dutton iva passable, it paints a bit of a sad picture.
i think that only another dozen or so will ever get on the road unless there are still loads hidden out there with v5's but these are now worth more as parts donors than as restoration projects so i dont expect very many to make in to the club membership ,except as long term restoration/ parts vehicles , it could i guess lead to spare bodies with v5's coming onto the market, which could in a roundabout way, aid more restorations as long as these don't find their way onto inported escorts if period registrations
If a dutton does get stripped for escort parts there is nothing to stop it being rebuilt using parts from a more modern donor vehicle. I've just done the Sierra using bits from my garage (mainly) so I know it can be done. alternative powerplants are available and may even make the end result more valuable.
A used Dutton is still one of the cheapest ways into the kit car market, even if you have to think outside the box for solutions.
One that has had its ID stripped as well is a different kettle of fish, not however an impossibility.
Exactly why I bought another one. I couldn't afford to build a kit from scratch so thought I would upgrade some of the components of the Phaeton to mordernise it. Will be fun, cost effective and will be satisfying as I know I have fabricated bits of it.
Thats exactly the same why i got a Dutton, it was cheap, and no way could i have afforded anything else, even if i had saved up what ive spent, i still would not have afforded anything other than another part done project, the difference is that for what i've spent on the Dutton, i will have a finished car and hopefully on the road if i hadnt bothered and saved up instead i would still only have a car that needs work, so for me its been worthwhile . plus i wouldnt have made all these new friends
The 'Dutton Ford' for sale here in France has reg. Q445 AFG and a chassis plate S4201 is that on the database?
I'll check it when I get home but the number looks familiar.
So the details match. Does the database tell you what model (S1/2/3) and what year? Anybody know the web site you go onto to check reg numbers, etc.?
Hi Derek
Our database says it is a series 2 Phaeton, first registered in July 1985. I have two former keepers registered with the DOC. The fact that it carries an S prefix (which denotes a Sierra) is probably a factory cockup.
Autocheck(Experian) says -
Vehicle Registration Plate:Q445AFG
Make:OTHER BRITISH MAKES
Model:OTHER
Colour:BLACK
MyCarCheck says.'The registration number you entered doesn't exist in our database'
The DVLA says -
Date of Liability | 24 09 2005 |
Date of First Registration | 05 07 1985 |
Year of Manufacture | 1985 |
Cylinder Capacity (cc) | 1498cc |
CO2 Emissions | Not Available |
Fuel Type | PETROL |
Export Marker | Y |
Vehicle Status | Unlicensed |
Vehicle Colour | BLACK |
Vehicle Type Approval | Not Available |
The letter Y in the export marker denotes a legitimately exported vehicle. If it is still carrying british plates then it is probably still unregistered in its destination country and therefore in 'limbo'
