The MAF is in that aluminium box with the square grid on it, so that needs to be kept connected. Can the inlet to that be drawn from inside the wheel arch, just pointing downwards and away from the wheel?

Forward facing vents need to be towards the front of the bonnet to have any flow. If vents are near the back of the bonnet then they often work better if they point backwards. For looks, I'd go for one of the first two pictures.

They'd look good with hands creeping out, apart from that....no comment :-))

Dont forget we are talking ambient pressure here, so unless the inlet pipe to the airfilter is virtually blocked, it will be getting all the air it wants, its not force fed.  Pressure in the plenum is the same as the pressure in the engine bay.

You would be better off making vents in the front as Rob says. 

ok vents in the bin. put that one down to experience .... i have another problem. im on my second aux belt the first one. just got bigger and bigger untill their was no adjustment left. i fitted another . and that started to slip today/ now these belts are old stock from local motospares. one was made by hellia and the other was ac delco. is this just old belts. or is their a underlying problem their. 

Sounds like old rubber, is it a V belt or ribbed like WWWW?

As Ade says, plus, whats it driving?? test that they spin freely and not binding up therefore stretching the belt through heat. Had that on a alternator that used to sieze up when hot

its a v belt. drives alt and water pump both new ....cheers guys

what size did they sell you? 

I'm listing a Gates part number 6315MC which is 11.9mm widest point and 876mm long
