Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

Peggy just failed her MOT on excessive play in the front suspension ball joints. That is, the ball joint that connects the upper wishbone to the hub carrier. I'm having trouble finding the parts I need to replace, mostly because I don't know whether the ball joints can be bought separately or are part of the wishbones/track control arm/whatever they're called? I'm guessing the parts are off a mk2 Escort.

So, who knows what I need to get and where's best to get them?

Should have also said I'd like to change the lower ball ends at the same time.

I think the Legerra uses the cut down escort strut, if that is the case it is a maxi ball joint you need like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bottom-Ball-Joint-BL-Maxi-Locost-Higman-B...

The lower ones would be part of the tca's and I don't think can be replaced

Hi Ed

Pete is correct. Lower ball joint is part of the TCA, mk1 or mk2 escort. Upper ball joint is maxi.

Thanks for the quick replies guys, I wouldn't have guessed they'd be off a Maxi. I'll see if I can get away with just doing the uppers because the track control arms are the adjustable type and hence will have been dear.

Cheers!

I've gone the whole hog and got the uppers, new adjustable track control arms, poly bushes and rack gaiter. After having another look most of the play seemed to be in the TCA arm's ball, so best to overhaul it all.
