Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

SORN'd Daisy Dutton today, and no Steve it's not the rain that's won. It's my right foot just too heavy and another gearbox bites the dust along with very low oil pressure. Coming back from Donnington was a struggle.

Decision made to rebuild engine, replace gearbox (still 4 speed just stronger Type 3) service back axle. Nine years of caning the old girl doesn't help! give the car some stick to...

Ade came up trumps with 1300 X-Flow engine in a box, so thats going in James' Sierra and my 1700 will be sorted along with the bike carbs (Sorry Steve H) Country roads prepare yourselves. Oh did I mention the respray? BRG

C'mon Dave, how about brining Daisy Dutton into the 21st century, and giving her a decent power plant, something a litltle more modern ............... ?  something that will cruise around the lakes with out having to worry about, dzzy's, low tension leads, timing lights and the like !!!!!!!  Something with fuel injection and a lot more grunt,  :-)

Sod it, Im rambling again !!! , but I have spent most of the night in the pub !  Tee Hee.

Paul, i would rather wrorry about dizzy's,low tension stuff etc than an ecu going belly upon you  just take your right foot off a bit, thats the best answer, a B road at 50 is more fun than 80 down the motorway  unless your in a hurry that is

I agree with you on the speed side of things Martin, I cant think of anything more boring than sitting on motorways ........ blasting around non motorway's is exactly what my Phaeton is being built for :-)  and should be blisteringly fast  0 to 80,  I prefer to tune more modern engines, where I have control over the mapping, mind you, you cant call a Zetec a modern engine !!!

with these cars u dont need a big engine or moden engin your that low to the ground it feels like 90 even when your only doing 40 plus there that light if u have loads of grunt u will just end up sideways all the time

Paul, you can give an old lady new hip joints but she's still an old lady, so for me the X-flow stays. I think in 1700 state with R1 bike carbs and the 2000 box will compete with most things from the lights, maybe I'll start to take on the young whipper snappers with thier Type R's

has james had a grumble about the loss of cc's? (though not a lot of HP)

I have said, and say again, that a small engine at its limits is way more fun than a brute at speed! The most fun car i built was was a Citroen 2CV powered three wheeler (a special i built) it was flat out at about 80-85 but it was a blast to drive. About as quick as an old MG midget, (my friend had one at the same time) and we could race each other home from work at road legal speeds. keeping road speed up was a continuous gearbox dancing exercise and real fun.

All of this was whilst i worked as a mechanic for BMW and LOTUS in the late 80's and early 90's. so i got to play with Turbo Esprit's and M3's. The M3's were really not nice to drive.......the Lotus cars were OK but again not brilliant, to get any sensation of speed and excitement you needed to be 100mph plus and you were more worried about your licence and life if it went a bit wrong, than any fun you might be having.

i no its out well i think its the sun anyway lol

and its not an age thing i am 30 and pre my old cars easyer to fix and play with

I think I must be lucky because the legerra does a fair job of keeping up with Mr Taylor on our country outings but will hit three figures quite easily on the motorway (well it used to before the small end went and gave me a 3000 rpm limit)

Not that I have ever tried to go that fast officer.

Theoretical top speed with my set up is 135MPH @ 6000 rpm.

Dave, I am doing the clutch this weekend so the hoist should be free by sunday night.

or if u want dave 1 have a hoist  if need to borrow for a few weeks but up to u

I would have been there to help Ade, but my Mum decided to fall Thursday night in the kitchen and break her leg  scarey moment as her foot was facing the wrong way when we arrived. Ambulance scooped her up and took her to Wigan Royal Infirmary. That's stop her chances of winning Strickley come dancing again this year.

:-)))))) - and then you get the neighbour...guy with "Strawberry"-pink trousers, a "Plum(ish) pink P-boxster, nose in the air, private reg etc......and "take him" round the outside of a local roundabout !

Yipppppeeeeeee!
