Yes, but only for my Melos. I'm quite glad that I don't have one for the Legerra - where would I put it? It would only irritate me (or is it irrigate me) when it rained. I suppose, just to be a mate and to make up for the kettle incident, I could store yours for you if you want Daryl.

Doh! I thought I was doing something wrong. I'll just put a hardtop on my Legerra ... oops, I haven't got one!

As I said earlier in the post, its not a huge problem the escort parts being sold off as if someone really wants a Dutton they will be canny enough to get round it. My issue lies in that the remains often got chopped up after the ID had been robbed, god knows how many other kits are running around on old Dutton log books, its against the law.

The real problem will arise when one of these is involved in a fatal accident. It will be all over the press and we will all be tarred with the same brush.

The tyres are 183/70s so the size should be ok and they're on factory wheels so the offset is correct. they are however quite old so may have gone a bit hard. They're matched pairs so I may swap them front to rear and see if the grip problem changes ends. I cant sadly try the Capris wheels on it without a spacer at the front

what pressures are you running? if they are too hard the symptoms you describe are exactly what you would get ....

on my car 17psi +/- 2psi the car was great at anything above 25psi the grip went down the toilet, and at the 28psi the tyre fitters filed the tyres too the car was almost undriveable especially in the wet.

Thanks Dave, I'll check that

Hang on, you dallied with a lass from over the border and lived to tell !!!

my  brother used to live in Dobwalls and  the locals used to tell stories about pitched battles across the Tamar,it was once said that no self respecting cornish girl would even look at ,let alone talk to a Devon boy, and vise versa

Bit ironic really as many moons ago the DOC use to be associate members of the MK1 escort owners club, they use to let us use their spare parts scheme (which was very good and very comprehensive ) for our part of the deal if we had and spares left from a build they would take them off our hands.

Its almost as if things have come full circle but knowing one of the biggest escort breakers in mid Wales they aren't interested in duttons as they will struggle to clear £300/350 in escort parts from a standard car its just that a few people know they can add another £300/350 to that amount for a v5

Like Mark young broke a lot of Duttons in my time and will break more in the future, its all part of car qwnership

Could REALLY cry when I think back on the number of MK1 Escorts I broke back in the day and just scrapped the shells  !

When you think Sierra/Melos/MK3 numbers start about 1600/1800 that's about 4500 Escort based cars-4500 scrapped Escorts

Don't know really ? If I remember will have a look at some old copies of the mag as all the contact details for the mk1 spares coordinator were always put in every issue and see how long its been , I should think its a good 10years or so
Pity we lost contact really as even back then they were having bits remanufactured so had excellent spares supply

Ahh I remember Rob, I used them a couple of times, the guy who ran it retired and handed the business over but I don't think it survived :-(

anymore details about the one on RR..

not yet, i'm waiting for pics of the engine bay, a to see whats left and b see what sort of condition the metal work is in.
