Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

Well here we go, chassis fabrication work has now been completed and as you can see from the pic below has been stripped back down for final welding and capping of any open box sections, this will start tonight, the roll bar will be cut off again (only tacked on) and sent away for chroming. Rivnuts will be fitted along the bottom chassis rail for the mounting of the side skirts ( stolen the idea from our German friend Jorg )

Two coats of POR15 will then be applied ...........

Thanks for the comments chaps,

@ Dave A.  2k paint used, and that part of the workshop is also my office ....... OCD   me? Noooooooo ;-))

@ Ade.  The paint has still got to have a going over with No 1  polishing compound, just to make the shiny a bit more SHINY   :-))))))

The next step apart from having to re do the boot lid because I knocked into it with my fat arse!! will be to glue the vinyl around the rear of the dash scuttle and then build it up with the screen and wiper motor and linkage etc. then it can all be assembled with the shiny bits.

Whoops typo should have been 10,   yes I think it is made by Faracla.

Why is it that you go through periods of ........  'I cant be bothered syndrome' ??  Finished early today and the wife working tonight, so its the perfect time to spend a fair few happily uninterrupted hours on the Phaeton. Took one look at it sitting under the dust cover and promptly walked out of the workshop, locked the doors and went home for a beer in the garden..... Sighhhhhhhhh.

NOT GOOD :-(

It's nothing to do with working on the Dutton, Martin.   Its more the fact that I spend 9 hours a day servicing, repairing and sorting problems out on other peoples junk!!  Wish I had the same get up and go as I did when I was 21. ;-)))

Decided that I have had a long enough break from working on the Phaeton, so whipped the covers off yesterday and had a play. Connected the front loom to the indicators and then coupled the battery up to test them ....... flick the indicator stalk one way and all four lights came on, flick it the other way..... and all four lights came on Errrrrrrrr????  Push the hazard button and all four lights come on ????      Ok, on with the white coat and out with me meter and after half hour of testing I still couldn't find out where both sides of the indicators were getting a 12 volt feed from at the same time.

After a sit down with a brew and good old look over my home made wiring diagrams (eat your hart out Hayes) It suddenly dawned on me that I had not fitted a pair of diodes into the loom which went to the common indicator dash light, resulting in 12volts nipping through the light and feeding the other side at the same time. SKOOLBOY ERROR :-)))))))

Bit of surface rust on the old grey matter, only to be expected after a break :-)
